SURABAYA (ISL News) – PT Terminal Teluk Lamong continues to strengthen its terminal capacity and service quality by adding an Electric Rubber Tyred Gantry (E-RTG) at the Nilam Container Terminal. The electric-powered loading and unloading equipment arrived from China aboard the MV Spring Shine on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
The addition of E-RTG is a strategic step by the company to improve the operational readiness of the terminal while supporting the transformation towards a more modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly port.
By utilizing electric power, E-RTG is expected to increase the effectiveness of activities in the container stacking field, support service productivity, and reduce emissions compared to conventional diesel-fueled equipment.
"The addition of the E-RTG is part of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong's commitment to continuously strengthen its operational infrastructure to be modern, efficient, and environmentally friendly. This investment is being made to ensure all terminals under the company's management are better prepared to anticipate the growth in container traffic while providing more reliable services to users," said Muhammad Syukur, Director of Operations at PT Terminal Teluk Lamong.
Syukur added that the equipment modernization is in line with Pelindo's transformation agenda in encouraging the use of technology and innovation to improve the quality and sustainability of port services.
"In line with Pelindo's transformation, we will continue to encourage the implementation of technology and innovation to improve productivity, efficiency, safety, and the quality of terminal services," Syukur added.
The E-RTG has a lifting capacity of 40 tons and the ability to stack containers up to one over six. This equipment will enhance container handling at the TPK Nilam stacking yard once all installation, testing, and commissioning stages are complete.
TPK Nilam Terminal Head, Retno Pujianto, explained that the addition of E-RTG is expected to have a direct impact on increasing operational productivity and service quality to customers.
"The presence of the E-RTG will further strengthen the service capacity of the Nilam Container Terminal, particularly in supporting productivity in the stacking yard. After the dismantling, installation, testing, and commissioning processes are complete, this equipment is targeted to begin operations in early October 2026, thus providing faster, safer, more efficient, and more reliable services to all service users," said Retno.
