SURABAYA (ISL News, 09/02/2026) – Several container terminals operated by PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas will be equipped with new loading and unloading equipment. In total, there are at least 13 units of quay container cranes (QCC) and 26 units of rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG) and 26 units of rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG). The equipment is planned to begin arriving in stages in the second half of 2026.

PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Corporate Secretary Widyaswendra stated that the new equipment is part of the company's efforts to improve loading and unloading services. He stated that the equipment will be installed at several key terminals, including the Belawan Terminal in North Sumatra, the Surabaya Terminal in East Java, and the Semarang Terminal in Central Java.

Other container terminals to receive new equipment include Panjang Terminal 1 in Lampung, Perawang Terminal 2 in Riau, Banjarmasin Terminal 3 in South Kalimantan, Nilam Terminal 4 in East Java, Kendari Terminal 5 in Southeast Sulawesi, and Kijing Terminal 6 in West Kalimantan.

"In addition to bringing in new equipment, PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas will also optimize the assets of a number of equipment, both QCC and RTG, to support the reliability of loading and unloading at other terminals, such as at TPK Berlian which will be equipped with two QCC units," added Widyaswendra in Surabaya, Monday (09/02).

Carmelita Hartoto, Chairwoman of the Indonesian National Shipowners' Association (INSA), emphasized the need for strengthened collaboration among stakeholders in the port industry. Improvements to port infrastructure and superstructure are necessary given the continued growth in freight traffic each year.

"Port infrastructure, equipment, and operating systems must be continuously updated to optimize national logistics distribution," he said.

Trismawan Sanjaya, Secretary General of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI), highlighted three key issues: regulatory uncertainty, disparities in infrastructure and human resources across archipelagic regions, and the need for service standardization, including at ports. He emphasized that technology-based logistics infrastructure and service integration are key to improving efficiency and global competitiveness.

"All parties in the logistics chain have a role to play in providing competitive logistics costs, including port operators, transportation services, and warehousing," he concluded.
