
SELAT SUNDA INDONESIA (ISL News) – On Sunday, February 2, 2025, the Directorate General of Sea Transportation through the Tanjung Priok Sea and Coast Guard Base (KPLP) successfully carried out a search and rescue (SAR) operation for the TB MEGA 09 ship that sank in the Sunda Strait waters. This SAR operation involved the KPLP patrol ship KN. TRISULA - P.111.
Head of the Tg.Priok KPLP Base, Dr. Triono, conveyed the chronology of the incident:
* At 08.41 LT: KN. TRISULA - P.111 received information from VTS Merak about a sunken ship. TB. MEGA 09 ship with Callsign YDB4978, owned by Sahabat Kapuas, which was towing TK PENATA BESAR 1, sank due to bad weather and large waves in the Sunda Strait waters. The ship was carrying 8 crew members. The barge was found floating, but the position of the tugboat was unknown. Three crew members were on the barge, and five others were floating around the coordinates 05'51" 278S / 105'54" 102 E, heading towards the Merak - Bakauheni crossing route. KMP Jackwin which was passing near the location managed to rescue 5 crew members at position 05'51.143S / 105'55" 135E.
* 08.50 LT: The Head of the Class I Tanjung Priok PLP Base ordered KN TRISULA - P.111 to immediately head to the location of the incident.
* At 10.00 LT: KN TRISULA - P.111 departed from Bojonegara Pier towards TB MEGA 09 - TK PENATA BESAR 1.
* At 12.30 LT: KN TRISULA - P.111 arrived at the location of the sinking of TB MEGA 09. Five survivors have been evacuated together with maritime stakeholder agencies and taken to Pelindo Pier to be handed over to the ship owner, Sahabat Kapuas, who was accompanied by the Crew of KN KUJANG - P.201, KN GOLOK - P.111, POLAIR Banten, Bakamla and KN TRISULA - P.111 then conducted observations, broadcast navigation warnings, and secured the location with signs for the safety of other ships.
* At 13.00 LT: KN TRISULA - P.111 placed officers at TB KAPUAS MANDIRI to supervise TK PENATA BESAR 1 which was towed to a safer place around Panjang Island, Bojonegara, Banten.
* Findings on Site:
TK PENATA BESAR was found floating and drifting and oil spills from TB MEGA 09 were found around the location of the incident and pollution control at the location of the incident.
