SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas recorded a growth in container flow in 2024 of 7.1% compared to 2023. During 2024, the number of containers served by the company was 12,489,927 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), an increase from 2023 which was recorded at 11,661,489 TEUs.
These containers consisted of 8,494,402 TEUs of domestic containers and 3,995,525 TEUs of international containers. PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas said that the growth in container flow occurred in almost all container terminals managed by the company.
Corporate Secretary of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Widyaswendra said the current growth of container flow is still following the trend of economic growth that is still maintained. According to him, the growth of container flow will not be far from the economic growth of a region or country.
"The average growth in container traffic each year will be in the range of 4-6 percent, this is what we call organic growth," he said.
PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas itself is currently said to be preparing a strategic plan to increase the growth of container flows inorganically. Some of them are making Makassar New Port (MNP) a logistics consolidation center for the eastern part of Indonesia and cooperation in operating terminals with strategic partners. There are also those who cooperate with logistics and shipping players such as commodity containerization and opening a number of new shipping routes.
The strategic plans have been implemented one by one. Like MNP which is currently operating, cooperation with strategic partner INA-DP World to operate Belawan New Container Terminal (BNCT), there are also at least 32 new container shipping routes throughout 2022 to 2024.
"With several efforts that we have made, there is growing optimism that in 2029 the flow of containers managed by PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas can reach 15.7 million TEUs," he added.
