BANTEN INDONESIA (ISL News) – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Banten affirms its position as a reliable strategic logistics hub supporting the expansion of the national steel industry into the global market. Through comprehensive facilities and operational excellence at Ciwandan Port, Pelindo Regional 2 Banten continues to strive to facilitate the smooth flow of heavy metal exports, a key pillar of national economic growth.
The reliability of port services is demonstrated by continuously improving operational performance. Throughout 2025, Ciwandan Port successfully served a total of 99,675.63 metric tons (MT) of steel products shipped overseas, consisting of 56,057.79 MT (56.2%) of steel coil and 43,617.84 MT (43.8%) of steel plate.
As part of its service portfolio, Pelindo Regional 2 Banten has also successfully facilitated the export of steel products to the Australian market. This strategic move was realized through strong collaboration and partnership with service user DITH Australia Pty. Ltd., which entrusted the smooth operation of its logistics supply chain through the Ciwandan Port facility.
General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Banten, Benny Ariadi, said that this operational achievement is a concrete manifestation of the readiness of the dock infrastructure and the competence of human resources at Ciwandan Port in handling general cargo and heavy cargo on an international scale.
"The successful handling of tens of thousands of tons of internationally-bound steel throughout last year demonstrates the capacity and operational reliability of Ciwandan Port. This demonstrates our commitment and that of our stakeholders to continue providing effective, efficient services that focus on user needs," said Benny Ariadi.
In addition to export services, Pelindo Regional 2 Banten also supports the national steel industry by importing semi-finished steel products such as steel billets, steel blooms, and steel slabs, which serve as raw materials for the national steel industry. Throughout 2025, 719,631.84 metric tons (MT) of these steel materials entered Indonesia through the Ciwandan Port gate, which will then be distributed to various steel industries across the country.
Furthermore, domestic steel product distribution through Ciwandan Port is also significant. A total of 132,679.95 metric tons (MT) of steel cargo was distributed to various domestic destinations throughout 2025.
Benny explained that handling steel cargo requires a high level of precision, the availability of reliable heavy equipment, and strict implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) standards. This positive performance is inseparable from the close synergy established with service partners, shipping companies, and all relevant stakeholders within the port environment.
"Going forward, Pelindo Regional 2 Banten will continue to improve service quality and facility readiness to accommodate the increasing export volume of the steel industry and other general cargo. Of course, this will be easier to achieve with the support of all stakeholders for future business growth and sustainability," concluded Benny Ariadi.
