PADANG INDONESIA (ISL News, April 28, 2026) – Container throughput at the Teluk Bayur Container Terminal showed a positive trend at the start of the year. PT IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK), the sole container terminal operator in the Teluk Bayur area, recorded a 5.3% throughput growth in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year.

From January to March 2026, container volume reached 27,188 TEUs, up from 25,814 TEUs in the first quarter of 2025. This increase is an indicator of strengthening logistics activity in the West Sumatra region, in line with improving foreign trade performance.

IPC TPK Corporate Secretary, Daniel Setiawan, stated that this achievement reflects the increasing flow of goods through the port. "The 5.3% growth in the first quarter of 2026 indicates an increase in container volume. We continue to ensure optimal terminal services to ensure smooth distribution of goods," he said.

The increase in throughput was primarily driven by a surge in exports of several leading commodities. Container volumes of gambier and palm oil surged by more than 100%, followed by growth in rubber (6.18%) and animal feed (2.34%).

As the primary container terminal in the Teluk Bayur region, IPC TPK continues to strengthen its operational services by improving coordination with various stakeholders, from shipping companies to service users. This step is taken to maintain service stability amidst the dynamic nature of port operations.

Data from the West Sumatra Provincial Statistics Agency (BPS) also confirms this positive trend. In the January–February 2026 period, export value increased 42.94%, while imports surged 110.58% compared to the same period the previous year. India, Pakistan, and China were the main export destinations, while imports were dominated by Singapore, Malaysia, and Canada.

With this trend, Teluk Bayur is increasingly strengthening its role as an important logistics distribution hub in western Indonesia.

"The company will continue to maintain this growth momentum by increasing service capacity and collaborating more closely with stakeholders to ensure operational performance is maintained," Daniel concluded.
