MAKASSAR INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 4 noted that the development of the Indonesian Capital City, abbreviated as IKN, sparked a positive increase in operational performance on a consolidated basis in 2024 compared to the previous year.
The four main business lines showed significant growth, reflecting Pelindo's commitment as part of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) that are driving the national logistics sector to continue to improve its main port services in Region 4.
Until the period of December 2024, Pelindo Regional 4 recorded a ship flow of 457,683,074 gross tonnage (GT) or grew by 4.65% compared to the previous year. "This reflects the trust of ship owners in Pelindo Regional 4 services supported by the implementation of digitalization and development of supporting facilities," said Abdul Azis, Executive Director 4 of Pelindo Regional 4 through his press release, Monday (20/1/2025).
Some of the causes of the growth in ship traffic in the Pelindo Regional 4 work area include visits by container ships, roro ships, and increased activities of dry bulk ships loading crushed stone for the construction of the IKN at Parepare Port.
The increase in general cargo ship activities at Tanjung Redeb Port and the increase in roro and container ship activities at Balikpapan Port, as well as the increase in liquid bulk fuel and container ship activities in Regional 4 Sorong and the increase in container ship activities in Regional 4 Kendari also triggered an increase in operational performance of ship flows at Pelindo Regional 4 last year.
Yusida M. Palesang, Division Head of Operational Services of Pelindo Regional 4 added, in terms of container flow until the period of December 2024, it reached 2,508,040 TEUs or grew 8.92% compared to the previous year.
He said that this condition was also triggered by several performance improvements, namely, increasing demand for IKN project goods and consumer goods, such as clothing, food, and electronics in Regional 4 Samarinda, and an increase in agricultural product loading activities for corn commodities in Regional 4 Gorontalo.
"The performance improvement was also boosted by the increase in transhipment activities by PT SPIL shipping at Manokwari Port, the increase in B/M activities due to the main harvest of superior commodities and the construction of highway infrastructure, the increase in unloading activities of filled containers for religious holidays and full loads of processed wood at Biak Port, and the increase in 10 Feet container activities (G-tainer) at Tarakan Port," he explained.
Meanwhile, in terms of the flow of goods and passengers, Yusida continued, there has also been a significant increase in performance. Where the flow of goods until the period of December 2024 reached 78,261,415 Tons/M3 or grew 52.89% compared to the previous year.
"Passenger flow also grew by 7.3% compared to 2023 because it was recorded that up to the period of December 2024 it reached 7,222,234 people."
The increase in the flow of goods said Division Head of Operational Services of Pelindo Regional 4 due to the unloading of building materials at Ambon Port. Then also driven by the increase in loading and unloading activities of Pelni Ships at Sorong Port, the increase in B/M vehicle activities of roro ships at Balikpapan Port, Ternate Port, and Bitung Port, as well as the increase in coal export activities at the Balikpapan Coal Terminal (BCT) Special Terminal in Regional 4 Balikpapan.
Meanwhile, the number of passenger flows also experienced a fairly positive escalation in the Pelindo Regional 4 work area due to cruise ship visits to Ambon Port, Bitung Port and Jayapura Port.
"In addition, it is also due to the increase in express ship activities to Malaysia at Tarakan Port, as well as the increase in passenger activities at Ambon, Makassar and Balikpapan Ports using sea transportation," said Yusida.
Executive Director 4 Pelindo Regional 4 Abdul Azis said that the positive performance achieved by his party last year was inseparable from the hard work of the entire team and the support of stakeholders.
"The various improvement indicators reflect the company's commitment to continue improving port services, especially in Region 4. We have committed to continue innovating and improving the quality of services to support economic growth in eastern Indonesia," he said.
Pelindo Regional 4 will continue to focus on service transformation and infrastructure development to meet the needs of service users. By continuing to collaborate and innovate, the Company is optimistic that it can face various challenges in the years to come.
