
JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) (“BKI”) as the lead Holding BUMN Jasa Survei, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Sea Transportation held a seminar entitled “The Fundamental of Ship Recycling”. This event was held in order to educate ship owners and shipyards about ship recycler practices in accordance with regulations, introduce innovative classification and consulting services. The event was held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta.
Also attended by the Director of Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Capt. Hendri Ginting who was represented by the Head of the PMKK Sub Directorate, Dr. Capt. Miftakhul Hadi, S.ST, MM, M.Mar., Director of Operations of PT BKI (Persero), Mr. R. Benny Susanto who was represented by the Deputy Director of Classification Management Business of BKI, Mr. Arief Budi Permana, BP BATAM, INSA, IPERINDO, BSOA, IISIA, and stakeholders from government agencies, associations and BKI customers.
In his remarks, BKI Operations Director, Mr. R. Benny Susanto, represented by BKI Classification Management Business Deputy Director, Mr. Arief Budi Permana emphasized the importance of understanding the ship recycling regulations as the implementation of the IMO Hong Kong Convention on June 26, 2025 as a global milestone to ensure a safe, sustainable, and environmentally friendly ship recycling process.
"Why is this important? Because every ship that does not meet the requirements according to this convention has the potential to face detention when in ports of countries that have adopted the regulation. As a company that is always committed to supporting the Indonesian maritime industry, PT. Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) has developed a Ship Recycling service to help companies meet these requirements. Through the issuance of a Statement of Compliance (SoC),"
Through this event, BKI hopes to not only provide understanding but also open up opportunities for establishing cooperation, the training will be held for two days which will be held at the BKI Head Office, Jakarta.
