MAKASSAR INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (SPJM) as one of the Subholdings of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) through the Department of Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (K3L) held 4 (four) batches of Basic Life Support & Basic Safety workshops during October 2024. This workshop was held simultaneously in 4 (four) SPJM work areas for 4 (four) weeks.
This workshop was held to teach and train basic skills in handling emergency situations, especially in cases of cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest and minor injuries. On this occasion, workshop participants were introduced to the concept of Basic Life Support (BLS), including basic theories about the respiratory system, circulation, and vital signs. Not only that, participants were also taught Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques by means of chest compression and rescue breathing, as well as handling choking situations using the Heimlich maneuver method for both adults and children. Furthermore, other first aid methods were also explained, including how to clean minor wounds and stop bleeding.
The series of workshops began on October 8, 2024 in SPJM Region 4 in Makassar City, continued in SPJM Region 3 Surabaya on October 14, 2024. Furthermore, in SPJM Region 2, the workshop was held on October 21, 2024 in Jakarta. As the closing of the series of activities, the batch 4 workshop was held in SPJM Region 1, on October 29, 2024 in Batam City. The workshop participants were 30 people per batch , consisting of SPJM employees and security and cleaning staff.
As speakers, SPJM presents expert medical personnel. As speakers, doctors from PHC Hospital were brought in, namely Doctor Muhammad Iqbal in Makassar and Batam, Doctor Muhammad Alim Setiawan in Jakarta, and Doctor Fardiansyah Dwiristyan in Surabaya City.
In addition to being given theoretical knowledge, workshop participants also carried out simulation activities and competency tests. In this simulation, participants were given examples of emergency situations to test the application of the BLS technique theory that had been learned, to ensure that participants were ready to face real emergency situations.
With this training, it is expected that participants can improve their knowledge and skills as well as their confidence in dealing with emergency situations, reducing the risk of accidents and protecting lives as well as demonstrating SPJM's commitment to creating safety awareness throughout its work environment.
