BANTEN INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo has prepared Ciwandan Port, Cilegon City, Banten Province, to start serving logistics truck crossings since Friday (20/12) afternoon. Pelindo's move is a strategy to handle the surge in vehicle traffic crossing from Java Island to Sumatra Island during the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year holidays (Nataru 2024/2025) which is predicted to occur today, Monday (23/12/2024).
Group Head of Pelindo Corporate Secretariat, Ardhy Wahyu Basuki, said that Ciwandan Port has started to actively serve vehicle crossings. Especially for class VII trucks and below to reduce the congestion of queues at Merak-Bakauheni Port during the Nataru period. It was recorded that until December 23, 2024 at 12:00 WIB, 364 trucks had passed through Ciwandan Port, and 10 ships had docked at the port.
"In addition to the pier that has been prepared for ship docking and loading and unloading of vehicles using the crossing service to Sumatra Island, Ciwandan Port is also equipped with the availability of service facilities from buffer areas for two-wheeled vehicles and trucks. Then there are also up to 6 vehicle toll gate counters, so that there are no long queues," said Ardhy.
Meanwhile, to support the smooth and safe operation of sea transportation services during the peak period of the Nataru current, Pelindo provides free pilotage and towing services, to serve ship berthing in the waters of the Sunda Strait.
Pelindo is committed to ensuring excellent service during Nataru 2024/2025 by prioritizing safety and comfort in accordance with the direction of the Ministry of SOEs. This step is carried out through intensive coordination and collaboration with port stakeholders.
"Pelindo provides free various port service fees. Starting from the cost of pilot services, tug, mooring, dock and port pass for Java-Sumatra ferry ships as a form of support for the spirit of the Ministry of Transportation to maintain a safe and comfortable homecoming and Nataru holiday," concluded Ardhy.
