WEST KALIMANTAN (ISL News) - The Kijing Terminal, located in Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan, has officially commenced its first container operations. This service marks a new milestone in the development of the Kijing Terminal since its inauguration on August 9, 2022, as a National Strategic Project supporting economic, trade, and industrial growth in Kalimantan and strengthening its role as a logistics gateway in the western region of Kalimantan Island.

The first container service is the result of synergy between Pelindo Group through Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak with PT Pelindo Multi Terminal through its subsidiary, PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) and PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas through its subsidiary, PT IPC Terminal Petikemas.

As part of the Pelindo Group, PTP Nonpetikemas is currently trusted as the sole operator at Kijing Terminal that manages terminal operational services to ensure port activities run safely, reliably, and productively.

The inaugural activity was carried out with the arrival of the TB Megah 1611/TK MMSS 2711 vessel owned by PT Pulau Laut Line, which serves the Pasir Gudang–Batam–Kijing–ICA–Kijing–Pasir Gudang route. During its inaugural visit, the vessel unloaded 70 empty containers at the Kijing Terminal. This service marked the start of container service operations at the Kijing Terminal after various preparations for infrastructure, equipment, operational systems, and regulatory aspects were completed by the Pelindo Group.

This service also realizes the container service development plan that has been prepared since 2025. Through various outreach activities to service users and strengthening facilities and operational readiness, Pelindo Group together with PTP Nonpetikemas continues to refine the steps for operating container services until they can finally be realized in 2026.

General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak, West Kalimantan Yanto, said the inaugural container service was a strategic achievement in the effort to make Kijing Terminal a modern logistics gateway in West Kalimantan.

"The inaugural container service at Kijing Terminal is a significant milestone in the development of a modern port in West Kalimantan. With the commencement of container services, Kijing Terminal is increasingly ready to support the smooth flow of logistics, increase the competitiveness of regional exports, and encourage economic growth and investment in West Kalimantan," Kalbar said.

According to West Kalimantan Yanto, Pelindo continues to improve its facilities and supporting equipment so that the Kijing Terminal can provide more efficient, safe, and international standard services.

"We are optimistic that this container service will provide a more effective logistics alternative for businesses. Going forward, Kijing Terminal is expected to become a major logistics hub serving the needs of industry, trade, and exports and imports in West Kalimantan and the surrounding region," Kalbar said.

To support port operations, the Kijing Terminal is equipped with various modern facilities designed to serve a wide variety of commodities. The terminal features a 750-meter container dock with a capacity of up to 100,000 DWT, a 250-meter multipurpose dock, a 500-meter liquid bulk dock, and a 389-meter dry bulk dock. Additionally, the terminal features a container yard, an empty container yard, a container freight station (CFS), a reefer area, an integrated physical inspection facility, a trestle, a piperack, and various other supporting facilities.

The facility is supported by modern loading and unloading equipment such as Harbor Mobile Crane (HMC), Quay Container Crane (QCC), reach stacker, forklift, head truck, chassis, conveyor, hopper, grab, and bucket which enable container, liquid bulk, dry bulk, and general cargo services to be carried out efficiently and productively.

Collaboration Results

PTP Nonpetikemas President Director, Indra Hidayat Sani, said that the success of this first service was the result of collaboration between all parties in preparing Kijing Terminal as one of the strategic logistics hubs in Indonesia.

"The success of this first service demonstrates Kijing Terminal's readiness to optimally serve containers. As one of the operators of Kijing Terminal, PTP Nonpetikemas is committed to continuing to provide reliable, safe, and productive port services. We will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders and service users to provide added value for customers while supporting regional economic growth," said Indra Hidayat Sani.

The presence of container services complements the existing liquid bulk, dry bulk, and general cargo services. Along with the development of these services, the operational performance of Kijing Terminal also shows a positive trend. In the first quarter of 2026, Kijing Terminal recorded a throughput of approximately 1.5 million tons, with the largest contributions coming from dry bulk commodities at 845,000 tons and liquid bulk at 662,000 tons. This achievement exceeded the set target, with dry bulk realization reaching 223% and liquid bulk at 168%, while bag cargo services reached 93% of the target.

With the support of continuously developing infrastructure and positive operational performance, Kijing Terminal is expected to further strengthen logistics connectivity and support trade and industrial growth in West Kalimantan and Indonesia as a whole.
