SURABAYA (ISL News, June, 15 2026) – PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) distributed another 2,000 mangrove seedlings for planting in Manyar Sidomukti Village, Manyar District, Gresik Regency, on Saturday (June 13). This activity follows the distribution of TPS's mangrove seedlings, following the company's previous distribution of 3,000 seedlings for planting in the Sontoh Laut area of Surabaya.
This
distribution is part of TPS's ongoing "Oxygen Donation" program, a
phased mangrove nursery, harvest, and planting initiative aimed at expanding
coastal green areas. This program ensures that TPS's mangrove nursery output
extends beyond harvest and continues to provide benefits through planting in
various coastal areas.
The
planting activity was carried out in collaboration with the Indonesian
Engineers Association (PII) East Java Region as part of the commemoration of
World Environment Day 2026. The series of activities involved various
stakeholders, ranging from local governments, professional organizations, to
local communities, who contributed to expanding the scope of coastal reforestation.
With
this additional planting in Gresik, the mangrove area under the TPS Oxygen
Donation program continues to grow, along with the distribution of seedlings to
various coastal areas. This distribution represents the accumulation of all
planting activities originating from TPS mangrove nurseries, including those
previously conducted in Surabaya and now expanded to the Gresik area.
TPS
Corporate Secretary, Erika Asih Palupi, stated that the Oxygen Donation program
is designed as a long-term commitment by the company to maintaining the
sustainability of the coastal environment through an integrated approach from
upstream to downstream. This means that TPS not only plants mangroves but also
manages the entire process, from seedling cultivation (upstream), maintenance
until ready for planting/harvesting, to distribution and planting in various
coastal locations (downstream).
"The
Oxygen Donation Program is TPS's ongoing effort to ensure that every mangrove
nursery process has a tangible impact through planting in various coastal
areas. This distribution in Gresik is a continuation of previous distributions,
ensuring its ecological benefits continue to expand," he said.
He
added that the expansion of mangrove distribution is inseparable from
collaboration with various parties. PII's involvement in this activity is one
form of synergy that strengthens the program's impact, as this collaboration
gradually contributes to increasing the area of TPS Oxygen Donation in
coastal areas.
Through
this program, TPS not only plays a role in maintaining environmental
sustainability, but also supports climate change mitigation, reduces the risk
of abrasion, and provides social and economic benefits for coastal communities.
This
planting activity is part of TPS's commitment to continue expanding real
contributions through nature-based solutions, while ensuring that the Oxygen
Donation program can have a sustainable impact on the environment and future
generations.
