PADANG SUMATRA BARAT (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok or PTP Nonpetikemas Teluk Bayur Branch, a strategic port in West Sumatra, is strengthening its role in supporting national logistics activities. By carrying the vision of sustainability and efficiency, PTP Teluk Bayur Branch continues to innovate to become a green port and improve service quality, productivity, and performance..

PTP Nonpetikemas continues to create a safe and sustainable operating environment by implementing ISO 14001 and ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) standards.

Several concrete steps are taken such as the development of environmentally friendly infrastructure through the use of renewable energy and improving waste management systems, energy efficiency with operational electrification such as cranes and electric vehicles. In addition, emission and pollution management is carried out with the support of the government, community, and business partners.

Branch Manager of PTP Teluk Bayur Branch, Fauzi, said that in the green port effort, Teluk Bayur Port has adopted environmentally friendly technology, one of which is the electrification system of operational equipment. Teluk Bayur Port has also used oil booms in every liquid bulk loading and unloading activity to minimize the risk of leakage, thus preventing pollution and environmental damage. This is certainly able to increase the sense of security and trust of service users.

Fauzi, emphasized his commitment to supporting the implementation of greenport. "One form of our commitment in implementing greenport is by electrifying loading and unloading equipment such as Gantry Jib Crane so that it can reduce operational costs of fuel consumption by up to 25% and reduce noise levels and air pollution," explained Fauzi.

Increased Productivity

In addition to its commitment to implementing greenport, PTP Nonpetikemas Teluk Bayur Branch has also succeeded in increasing its productivity and performance. Teluk Bayur Port is currently one of the main ports in Indonesia in handling liquid bulk commodities, especially crude palm oil (CPO). Its handling capacity reaches 3.2 million tons per year, making it the second largest port after Dumai. In addition to CPO, other commodities such as shells and oil cakes are also exported to Korea, Japan, and New Zealand through this port.

PTP Teluk Bayur has successfully made important achievements in efforts to improve the efficiency of port services. The port implements an integrated non-container port operating system called PTOS-M (Pelindo Terminal Operating System Multipurpose) / PTOS-M which facilitates the monitoring system for loading and unloading activities. PTOS-M is part of the transformation and standardization process, one of the impacts of which is an increase in productivity performance Ton/Ship/Day (T/S/D) and a significant decrease in port stay.

Until the third quarter of 2024, PTP Non-container Teluk Bayur Branch has recorded an increase in productivity performance in Tons/Ship/Day (T/S/D) such as in dry bulk commodities, namely from 1,999 T/S/D to 2,604 T/S/D or an increase in service speed at the port of 30%. In addition, there was a decrease in port stay or the duration of a ship in port. The waiting time for ships at this port was successfully reduced from an average of 3 days to 2 days, which means an increase in cost efficiency at the Port for service users of up to 33%.

This reduction in waiting time is the result of the implementation of new systems and standardization that support the smooth loading and unloading process, while reducing operational obstacles. With reduced waiting time, port service users can enjoy the benefits of operational cost efficiency. Ships that can be served faster will reduce logistics costs and speed up the delivery of goods.

According to Fauzi, efficiency of ship waiting time is one of the main priorities to improve the quality of service to port service users. "We achieved this improvement by implementing standards and systems that can facilitate operations in the field. We are optimistic that this step will increase the competitiveness of PTP Nonpetikemas Teluk Bayur Branch, both nationally and internationally," he said.

Performance up to Q3 2024 recorded General & Bag Cargo commodity traffic with a throughput realization of 489,000 tons/m³. Dry bulk commodities were recorded at 1,480,000 tons and liquid bulk commodities achieved a throughput realization of 2,066,000 tons. PTP Nonpetikemas Teluk Bayur Branch has a 917.3m long dock facility and a 36,341 m2 stacking yard facility serving various types of cargo such as liquid bulk (in the form of CPO, Asphalt), dry bulk (in the form of Coal, Shells, Cake, Fertilizer, Corn, Soybeans, Gypsum and Copper Slag), and bag cargo (in the form of cement and fertilizer).

The success of Teluk Bayur Port as the gateway to the economy of West Sumatra cannot be separated from the support of the government and other stakeholders. Teluk Bayur Port is committed to becoming a safer, more comfortable and sustainable port, supporting regional economic growth and preserving the environment.

"We collaborate with the West Sumatra government, stevedoring companies, and goods owners to prepare an optimal cooperation roadmap, including community development around the port. We are committed to optimizing services at PTP Teluk Bayur to make a significant contribution to strengthening the supply chain and supporting regional and national economic growth," he explained.

SM Corporate Secretary of PTP Nonpetikemas Fiona Sari Utami also emphasized the company's commitment to this transformation. "The transformation carried out by PTP Nonpetikemas is not only aimed at improving operational efficiency, but also to strengthen competitiveness at the national and international levels. We are committed to providing better service by improving non-container loading and unloading services," said Fiona.
