 - The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will facilitate the repatriation of 6 (six) bodies of Indonesian crew members who were previously lost due to the sinking of the Keoyoung Sun ship in Shimonoseki waters, Japan, Wednesday (20/3/ 2024).

This South Korean-flagged ship carrying chemicals was carrying 11 crew members consisting of eight Indonesian citizens (WNI), two South Korean citizens and one Chinese citizen.

"The sending of bodies from Fukuoka to Tokyo has started yesterday, and upon arrival in Tokyo, the return of bodies to Jakarta will be carried out in stages with an estimate from April 3-8," said the Director of Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Hartanto when met in Jakarta, (27/ 3/2024).

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it is thought to be due to bad weather.

The Ministry of Transportation, cq Directorate General of Sea Transportation, will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ship manning agencies of each Indonesian crew member regarding the fulfillment of the rights of these seafarers.

"The Ministry of Transportation will continue to monitor, coordinate and facilitate until the rights of the victims are fulfilled and it is hoped that no problems will occur so that the bodies can be immediately returned to the families," he added.

On the same occasion, the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, said that of the 8 (eight) Indonesian citizens victims, the Japan Coast Guard confirmed that the bodies of 6 (six) Indonesian citizens had been found, 1 (one) Indonesian crew member survived, named Ryan Yudatama Lizar, while Another 1 (one) Indonesian crew member is missing and is still being searched for.

"Indonesian citizen Asep Saepudin Juhri is missing and is still being sought by related parties in Japan. "Currently, JCG is still carrying out patrols to look for Asep," said Judha Nugraha.

Meanwhile, the surviving crew member, Ryan Yudatama, has been out of hospital since Tuesday, March 26 2024 and is currently recovering.

"If everything goes smoothly, Ryan is planned to return to Indonesia on April 1 or 2," concluded Judha.

On this occasion, the Director of Shipping and Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Transportation together with the Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens, Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed their deep condolences for this incident.

"We are very sorry for this incident and thank all parties who have participated in the search and recovery efforts for the victim. "We, together with related agencies, will also continue to search for missing victims," ​​concluded Hartanto.
