JAKARTA (ISL News) - As many as 40 participants of the President's Program for Future Leaders (P3MD) gained an understanding of port business and management in a learning session featuring Executive Director 2 of Pelindo Regional 2, Budi Prasetio, at the Indonesian Maritime Museum, Jakarta, Wednesday (7/10/2026).
This activity is part of the P3MD series, designed to provide participants with firsthand experience and perspective on the world of business, operations, strategic challenges, and leadership. The Understand the Business program includes Pelindo Business 101, a Mentor Introduction, and a Strategic Management Dialogue.
The series of learning sessions were also attended by Pelindo's Director of Human Resources and General Affairs, the Group Head of Corporate Transformation, the Group Head of Talent and Performance Development, the Group Head of Accounting and Taxation, and the Director of Operations at PT Terminal Teluk Lamong. Representatives from Pelindo Regional 2, PMLI, IPC TPK, Pelindo Jasa Maritim, and Jasa Armada Indonesia Tbk. were also involved in the site journey.
In the Strategic Management Dialogue session, Budi Prasetio shared his perspective on how the port business operates as an ecosystem involving various processes and stakeholders. He believes that understanding the business holistically is a crucial asset for aspiring leaders when facing complex challenges.
"When we talk about the port business, we're managing more than just terminals or ships. It involves many parties, processes, and interests that must work together. Therefore, a leader needs to be able to see the relationship between a single decision and its impact on the entire ecosystem," said Budi.
Following the learning session, participants participated in a series of site tours to observe port operations firsthand. The program included visits to several facilities and operational locations, including the Indonesian Maritime Museum, the Planning & Control Room, the container and non-container terminals, and the dock area.
This series provides an overview of the interconnectedness between planning, decision-making, terminal activities, and ship services within a port ecosystem.
For Budi, the hands-on experience in the field helped participants see that business decision-making doesn't occur in isolation. Each decision can be linked to other processes and impact various parties within the same ecosystem.
"Leaders must be accustomed to viewing problems from multiple angles. What seems simple at one point can have far-reaching implications for other processes. That's where the ability to understand context and make informed decisions becomes crucial," said Budi.
In the session, participants were also introduced to various challenges facing the port industry, including the need to increase productivity, develop innovation, and utilize technology to support operational activities.
Pelindo's involvement in P3MD also aligns with Danantara's strategic direction to promote the strengthening of human resources and leadership within state-owned enterprises. Talent development is crucial to ensuring the company's transformation and performance improvement can be sustained.
"Company transformation ultimately depends heavily on the people who run it. Therefore, developing strategic thinking and the courage to continuously learn are crucial investments for future leaders," said Budi.
Through this activity, Pelindo Regional 2 also provided experience in how ports are managed, from a business and operational perspective, to multi-stakeholder coordination. This learning is expected to provide P3MD participants with a broader perspective on decision-making and leadership in navigating the dynamics of the business world.
"We hope that participants will not only understand how a port works, but also see why every process and decision within it must be managed from a broader perspective," Budi concluded.
