MERAUKE (ISL News) - Merauke Container Terminal (TPK) recorded a 10.65 percent growth in container traffic until August 2026. Container traffic was recorded at 37,237 TEUs, an increase compared to the same period in 2025 of 33,653 TEUs.
As terminal activity increases, the Merauke Port Authority (TPK) continues to strengthen coordination and communication with stakeholders within the Port of Merauke. Collaboration between terminal operators, regulators, and security personnel is crucial to ensuring the smooth and secure operation of port activities.
Merauke Terminal Head Muhammad Rasul Irmadani stated that the growth in container traffic indicates that logistics activity through Merauke Terminal continues to move positively. He emphasized that this increase needs to be balanced with service readiness and good coordination with all stakeholders.
"The growth in container flow indicates that logistics activity through the Merauke Port of Goods and Services continues to move positively. We need to balance this with service readiness and improved coordination with all stakeholders within the port," Rasul said.
According to him, port activities involve various parties with interrelated roles and responsibilities. Therefore, communication between terminal operators, regulators, security personnel, service users, and other stakeholders is crucial to maintaining smooth port operations.
TPK Merauke will continue to maintain service readiness in line with the development of container activity at the terminal. This growth in traffic is expected to be accompanied by improved service quality and stronger coordination with all stakeholders.
"For us, traffic growth must be accompanied by efforts to maintain service quality. We continuously evaluate operational needs and build coordination with stakeholders to ensure terminal operations run safely and smoothly," Rasul added.
Strengthening Inter-Agency Collaboration
One of the efforts to strengthen inter-agency communication was carried out through joint sports activities involving the Merauke TPK, the Merauke Class IV Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), and the Merauke Seaport KP3 Police.
The activity, which took place at the Merauke Passenger Terminal, was attended by Merauke TPK workers, along with representatives from the Merauke Class IV KSOP and the Merauke Seaport KP3 Police. In addition to maintaining health and fitness, the event provided a space for interaction between agencies beyond the routine formal coordination required to support port activities.
"Joint activities like this provide a platform for building communication in a more informal setting. We hope that this increasingly solid relationship will strengthen coordination to ensure smooth, safe, and high-quality service at Merauke Port," Rasul said.
The Head of the Class IV Merauke Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), Capt. Julivan Ch. L. Salindeho, welcomed the activity. He stated that good communication and relationships between agencies are crucial in supporting the implementation of tasks within the port.
"In addition to providing health and fitness benefits, activities like this serve as a means to strengthen relationships and build better communication between agencies within the Merauke Port environment," said Julivan.
PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, through its Merauke Port Authority (TPK), views collaboration with all stakeholders as crucial to supporting the continuity of terminal services. Coordination between terminal operators, regulators, security forces, service users, and other stakeholders will continue to be strengthened in line with the development of port activities in Merauke.
Going forward, TPK Merauke will continue to maintain operational readiness and strengthen coordination with stakeholders to support safe, smooth, and efficient terminal services while supporting logistics activities in Merauke and the surrounding areas.
