SURABAYA (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas received awards at the ASRI 2026 Green and Smart Port Initiatives (GSPI) event for two terminals it manages: the Banjarmasin Container Terminal (TPK) with a three-star rating and the Bitung Terminal with a two-star rating. The awards were presented by the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Zulkifli Hasan, in Gresik, Wednesday (July 15, 2026).
The award was given based on the results of an assessment conducted throughout 2025. TPK Banjarmasin and TPK Bitung were deemed to have met the criteria for implementing green and smart ports, which include management aspects, port technical aspects, occupational safety and health (K3), environment, energy, and service digitalization.
The GSPI ASRI 2026 program is an initiative to encourage the transformation of ports in Indonesia to become more Asri (safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful), while implementing environmentally friendly operational governance supported by digital technology.
Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan stated that ports play a strategic role in maintaining the smooth operation of the national food logistics system. He stated that ports' function extends beyond simply serving as a place for loading and unloading goods.
"Ports are key nodes in the national food logistics system, connecting production centers, industrial areas, distribution centers, and consumption areas. Good port management is crucial for ensuring a smooth supply, helping to reduce price disparities, and maintaining food stability," said Zulkifli Hasan.
He believes the transformation towards green and smart ports needs to be further expanded to make the distribution of goods more efficient and support national food security.
Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi hopes more ports in Indonesia will participate in the GSPI ASRI program. The implementation of the principles of safety, health, cleanliness, and beauty is expected to extend beyond the maritime transportation sector to other modes of transportation.
"We hope other ports will soon follow the ASRI initiative. Going forward, this program will cover not only maritime transportation but also other transportation activities. We will continue to push for wider implementation of the ASRI initiative," said Dudy.
PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Corporate Secretary Widyaswendra said the award is part of the company's ongoing process of building a more environmentally friendly, safe, and technology-based container terminal.
"As a container terminal operator, we are committed to continuously realizing a green port. This commitment goes beyond meeting assessment indicators, but must be reflected in daily operational management, from energy efficiency and environmental stewardship to improving workplace safety and utilizing digital technology," said Widyaswendra.
According to him, the achievements of the Banjarmasin and Bitung terminals demonstrate the importance of consistent terminal management in integrating operational, safety, environmental, energy, and digitalization aspects.
"This award motivates us to gradually improve our terminal management standards. We will also encourage other terminals within Pelindo Terminal Petikemas to continue strengthening the implementation of green and smart port principles, tailored to the characteristics and needs of each terminal," he continued.
Widyaswendra added that the transformation of green and smart ports requires collaboration between the government, terminal operators, service users, shipping companies, stevedoring workers, and all stakeholders in the port ecosystem.
This collaboration is necessary because the implementation of green and smart ports is not only related to the construction of physical facilities, but also includes improving governance, strengthening a culture of safety, resource efficiency, and integrating digital-based service systems.
