BANDAR LAMPUNG (ISL News) - To commemorate World Environment Day 2026, PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 2 Panjang planted 250 tree seedlings in the Panjang Port area as part of its Greenbelting Program. This activity demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting environmental conservation, reducing carbon emissions, and realizing a green, sustainable, and environmentally conscious port.
Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang General Manager, Hardianto, said that this activity is part of the company's commitment to integrating sustainability aspects into every operational activity.
"The World Environment Day commemoration is a momentum for us to continue strengthening our commitment to sustainable environmental management. By planting 250 tree seedlings in the Greenbelting Program, we are not only creating green space in the port area but also building a system that supports measurable monitoring and measurement of carbon absorption capacity. This step is part of Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang's contribution to supporting the decarbonization agenda and realizing a greener, more resilient, and more sustainable port," said Hardianto.
The Greenbelting program developed by Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang not only aims to expand green open space in the port area but is also designed to facilitate plant growth monitoring and carbon sequestration calculations. Trees are planted at several strategic points within the port area that have the potential to be developed into green areas. With integrated area planning, the company can more accurately measure the vegetation's contribution to absorbing carbon emissions as part of its efforts to support the national decarbonization target.
In addition to improving air quality, the presence of vegetation is expected to create a more comfortable working environment, reduce the impact of heat, and increase biodiversity around the port's operational area.
Pelindo Regional 2 Panjang will continue to promote various sustainability initiatives through responsible environmental management, energy efficiency, and collaboration with stakeholders to create a port ecosystem that benefits the community, the environment, and the business world while supporting the achievement of sustainable development targets (Sustainable Development Goals/SDGs) and the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in the port sector. This program is also implemented by several other branches in the Pelindo Regional 2 area, including Banten, Bengkulu, Cirebon, Pangkal Balam, Pontianak, Sunda Kelapa, Tanjung Pandan, and Tanjung Priok.
