PALEMBANG (ISL News) – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo together with the South Sumatra Provincial Government and consortium members are pushing for accelerated steps to accelerate the establishment of the Tanjung Carat Port Business Entity (BUP) as a new logistics hub in South Sumatra.
This was discussed in a follow-up discussion meeting for the Head of Agreement (HoA) for the formation of the Tanjung Carat BUP which was held at Griya Agung, Palembang, Friday (10/7).
The meeting was chaired by South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru and Pelindo President Director Achmad Muchtasyar. Also in attendance were Pelindo's board of directors, Pelindo Regional 2 Executive Director 2, officials from the South Sumatra Provincial Government, and members of the Tanjung Carat Port development consortium.
During the meeting, the parties discussed strategic steps needed to expedite the completion of institutional and cooperation aspects. The discussion also included harmonizing work plans to ensure coordinated preparations for the construction of Tanjung Carat Port.
South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru said that the development of Tanjung Carat Port has provided a positive signal for the investment climate in South Sumatra.
"Since Tanjung Carat's launch, we've seen accelerated interest from various companies. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to provide further certainty for investors," said Herman Deru.
According to him, the results of the meeting were important capital for the parties to enter the next development stage.
"The results of today's discussions will serve as the basis for preparing the next strategic steps, including moving towards a Cooperation Agreement and implementing the groundbreaking," he added.
Pelindo President Director Achmad Muchtasyar emphasized Pelindo's readiness to support the accelerated development of Tanjung Carat Port through close coordination with the local government, the consortium, and all relevant stakeholders.
"Tanjung Carat Port plays a strategic role in strengthening connectivity and logistics service capacity in South Sumatra. Pelindo is ready to support the completion of each stage of its development through collaboration and alignment with all partners," said Achmad.
According to Achmad, integration between the government, business entities, and investors is a crucial factor in ensuring port development can proceed in a measurable manner and benefit regional trade and economic activities.
Executive Director 2 of Pelindo Regional 2 Budi Prasetio said, Pelindo Regional 2 will oversee the coordination and technical follow-up required in the development process of Tanjung Carat Port.
"The established coordination is crucial to ensuring that each stage can be followed up effectively. Pelindo Regional 2 is ready to support the alignment of technical and operational aspects with relevant parties," said Budi.
The development of Tanjung Carat Port is expected to improve logistics connectivity, encourage new investment, and strengthen South Sumatra's competitiveness as a center of economic growth in the Sumatra region.
As a follow-up, Pelindo, the South Sumatra Provincial Government, and consortium members will continue technical discussions with relevant agencies, including preparing the PKS and the stages leading to the groundbreaking.
Through the development of Tanjung Carat Port, Pelindo is committed to supporting the strengthening of the national logistics system while encouraging the creation of added economic value for South Sumatra and the surrounding region.
