MAROS INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (PJM) as part of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) carried out planting of hardwood trees in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi on June 18, 2026 through the Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program.
This activity was part of a series of events commemorating World Environment Day, which fell on June 5th. The Pelindo Group planted 20,000 trees simultaneously across Indonesia. PJM itself planted 2,500 trees on this occasion.
This tree planting demonstrates the company's commitment to supporting environmental conservation and sustainable development. By involving company management and employees, as well as the local community, the planting is expected to achieve sustainable conservation goals.
"Today, PJM planted 2,500 hardwood tree seedlings with good carbon absorption, such as teak and mahogany trees, which have ecological and economic benefits," explained PJM's Senior Vice President of Corporate Secretary, Tubagus Patrick.
"The tree planting location in Tanralili was chosen because calculating the impact of carbon storage requires patterned planting across a fairly large area," Tubagus continued.
Tanralili Sub-district Head, Sudarmin SE, Msi expressed his gratitude and appreciation to PJM for its attention to Tanralili sub-district.
"We also hope that this program will continue in other areas of Tanralili, with other types of trees, such as fruit trees, which can also provide economic value to the community," said Sudarmin.
This tree-planting program aligns with the company's commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, particularly in environmental aspects. This activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs), namely SDG 13 (Addressing Climate Change) and SDG 15 (Protecting Terrestrial Ecosystems).
