JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the smooth flow of international logistics through the maiden voyage service of the MV WANTAI vessel operated by X-Press Feeders with shipping agent Ben Line Agencies in the South China Java X-Press (SCJX) service. The presence of this new service is the first international maiden voyage served by IPC TPK in 2026 as well as a strategic step in strengthening Indonesia-China trade connectivity and expanding the intra-Asia shipping network.
The MV Wantai docked at IPC TPK Operations Terminal 3 on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 4:20 PM WIB with a port rotation of Yantian – Xiamen – Nansha – Jakarta – Surabaya – Yantian. The Liberian-flagged vessel with a length (Length Over All/LOA) of 210 meters and a width (Beam) of 32 meters is a container ship with a capacity of up to 2,902 TEUs. During its service in Jakarta, the ship recorded loading and unloading activities of 1,577 boxes .
The presence of SCJX services is crucial in supporting Indonesia's trade flow with China, which continues to show positive growth. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), China remains Indonesia's primary trading partner and the largest destination for non-oil and gas exports from January to March 2026, with a value reaching US$16.50 billion, contributing approximately 25.94 percent of total national non-oil and gas exports. On the import side, China is also Indonesia's largest source of non-oil and gas imports, with a value reaching US$22.02 billion, or approximately 41.56 percent of total national non-oil and gas imports.
Nationally, Indonesia's trade balance recorded a surplus of US$5.55 billion for the January–March 2026 period, with total exports reaching US$66.85 billion. This positive performance was driven by growth in trade in the manufacturing sector, including iron and steel, nickel products, electronics, consumer goods , and industrial raw materials, which are widely traded with the Chinese market.
As intra-Asian trade activity increases, the need for efficient shipping services with direct connectivity is becoming increasingly crucial to support the smooth distribution of goods. This new service is expected to positively contribute to the growth of international container flows at IPC TPK by adding new vessel calls , optimizing the utilization of docks, stacking yards, and loading and unloading equipment. This service also expands the terminal's market coverage to international feeder operators and has the potential to strengthen cargo transhipment connectivity and other regional trade networks.
For service users, this South China–Indonesia direct service provides a more competitive shipping alternative with efficient transit times , additional shipping options for national exporters and importers, and supports the flexibility of the Intra-Asia trade supply chain.
The welcoming ceremony for the new service was held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, attended by the Acting Director of Commercial and Business Development of IPC TPK, Yanuar Evyanto, and representatives from Ben Line Agencies Management.
IPC TPK Corporate Secretary, Daniel Setiawan, stated that the presence of this new service demonstrates the global shipping line's trust in IPC TPK's operational readiness and service quality. "With the support of integrated terminal services and optimal operational readiness, IPC TPK is ready to support shipping lines' needs in providing more efficient connectivity. The presence of this new service not only strengthens the international shipping network but also provides added value for service users through more competitive service options," Daniel concluded.
