PANGKALPINANG (ISL News, April 16, 2026) – PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas) Pangkal Balam Branch continues to strengthen its role in supporting the smooth supply chain of the Crude Palm Oil (CPO) industry through reliable and integrated loading and unloading services in the Bangka Belitung Islands region.
The high volume of liquid bulk loading and unloading activity at Pangkal Balam Port is dominated by crude palm oil (CPO) from oil palm plantations on Bangka Island, the main hinterland. Based on 2025 data, oil palm plantations in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province reached 355,065 hectares, with a potential production of approximately 4 tons per hectare. In addition to CPO, palm oil derivatives such as shells and kernels also offer potential for continued development in loading and unloading services.
Responding to this potential, throughout 2025, the Pangkal Balam Branch of PTP Non-Container served a throughput of 1.6 million tons, with a liquid bulk portion of 33.24%. In the first quarter of 2026, loading and unloading volume was recorded at 391,624 tons, with a liquid bulk portion of 35.18%.
Alamsyah, Branch Manager of PTP Non-Container's Pangkal Balam Branch, stated that optimizing liquid bulk services, particularly CPO, continues to be the company's primary focus, given the significant potential of palm oil commodities in the Bangka Belitung region. He added that various operational innovations are being implemented to ensure more efficient, safe, and sustainable loading and unloading processes.
"We continue to strengthen our services, particularly in the handling of CPO and its derivatives, through operational innovations that can increase efficiency while maintaining safety and environmental aspects," said Alamsyah.
This operational performance is supported by various innovations, one of which is the implementation of a portable drop tank system equipped with a submersible pump for CPO handling. This innovation significantly improves operational efficiency and optimizes pump capacity.
Furthermore, the truck-losing system allows for simultaneous service of up to four trucks. For safety and environmental reasons, the Pangkal Balam Branch of PTP Non-Container is also equipped with an oil spill response system consisting of oil booms, decomposing materials, and support vessels.
Going forward, the Pangkal Balam branch of PTP Non-Container is preparing an additional innovation, a drop tank cover, to allow loading operations to continue during rainy seasons. With an average rainfall of 12 days per month, this innovation is projected to increase loading capacity to 5,280 tons per month.
In addition to crude palm oil (CPO), service developments are also underway for palm oil derivatives. Since mid-2025, the Pangkal Balam Branch of PTP Non-Container has been serving palm kernel shell loading, with dry bulk volumes increasing from 185,229 tons in 2024 to 310,441 tons in 2025, and reaching 85,410 tons by March 2026.
As part of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo), PTP Non-container Pangkal Balam Branch is supported by complete facilities with a pier length of 649 meters as well as various loading and unloading equipment and adequate stacking areas.
Through the support of these facilities, innovation, and service development, PTP Non-container Pangkal Balam Branch continues to strengthen its role as a strategic logistics node in supporting the supply chain of the palm oil industry and its derivatives in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province.
The Pangkal Balam branch of PTP Non-Container serves commodities from the agriculture and plantation sectors. This is because agriculture is a leading sector in the South Bangka regional development priorities. The Pangkal Balam branch of PTP Non-Container operates in Pangkal Balam and Belinyu.
Pangkal Balam Port operates a multipurpose terminal that includes a concrete pier, sheet pile pier 1, sheet pile pier 2, a concrete pier, a sailboat pier, Ketapang 1 pier, a concrete pier trestle, and a sailboat pier.
