Container Flow at TPK Sorong Port to Grow 10% in the First Quarter of 2026

SORONG INDONESIA (ISL News, 16/4/2026)  - PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) recorded positive performance at the Sorong Container Terminal (TPK) throughout the first quarter of 2026. Container flow (throughput) was recorded at 16,131 TEUs, or grew 10 percent compared to the company's target until March 2026 of 14,616 TEUs.

This increase was triggered by, among other things, the momentum of goods transportation during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period from February to March, as well as additional container flow from changes in the distribution pattern (transhipment) of PT SPIL ships which now go through Sorong Port.

TPK Sorong Terminal Head, Welta Selfie, attributed this growth to the terminal's transformation process. "Sorong Port, which previously operated conventionally, has now evolved into a more modern and standardized container terminal," she said.

According to Welta, improving human resource capacity is a key focus. Continuous training and refresher training on port knowledge are being conducted to ensure operational staff have adequate competencies to support smooth service delivery. "Strengthening human resources is crucial to prepare for the increasingly competitive dynamics of the logistics industry," he said.

The Head of ALFI/ILFA Sorong Port, Wawan, warned that this achievement should not make management complacent. He emphasized that throughput growth needs to be maintained through collaboration with stakeholders, particularly those in the Transportation Management Services (JPT) sector.

"Synergy with stakeholders is key to maintaining smooth logistics flows in Sorong and the surrounding area. The Sorong TPK also needs to continuously monitor performance trends to ensure sustainable growth," said Wawan.

He also emphasized the importance of maintaining service quality and being open to user input as part of continuous improvement efforts.

In addition to operational improvements, TPK Sorong management has begun promoting sustainability initiatives. One example is the planned construction of a plant nursery as part of an environmental conservation program.

This step is expected to support the transformation of TPK Sorong into a terminal that is not only operationally efficient, but also sustainable in the long term.
