SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News, 3/26/2026) – PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) recorded a 1.36% growth in container traffic in February 2026 compared to the previous month ( month-on-month ). Container volume increased from 117 thousand Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in January to 119 thousand TEUs in February. The positive performance in February 2026 was driven by the contribution of international containers of 113 thousand TEUs and domestic containers of 6 thousand TEUs. For comparison, in January 2026, international container traffic reached 110 thousand TEUs, while domestic traffic was 7 thousand TEUs.

Meanwhile, based on a year-on-year comparison , international container flow in the January-February 2026 period was 223 thousand TEUs, a correction of 0.06% compared to the same period last year of 232 thousand TEUs. In total, container flow—both domestic and international—was corrected by 3.65% compared to the same period last year, from 246 thousand TEUs to 237 thousand TEUs. The factor causing the correction in year-on-year throughput was due to an unbalance or imbalance between volume and ship's call in international and domestic container flows. This occurred because shipping service schedules were maintained and cargo volume did not grow as fast as available transport capacity.

In terms of foreign trade, export flows in February experienced month-on-month growth of 3.77%, from 53,000 TEUs to 55,000 TEUs. Imports also increased by 1.79%, from 56,000 TEUs to 57,000 TEUs.

The comparison of container flows between exports and imports in January-February 2026 was 49% (109,000 TEUs) for export containers and 51% (113,000 TEUs) for import containers. Compared to the same period in 2025, the comparison percentage for export-import container flows in 2026 remained unchanged. The 49% export percentage in 2025 contributed 115,000 TEUs to container flows. Meanwhile, import container flows accounted for 51% of the total, 116,000 TEUs, in January-February.

The number of ship visits to the TPS during the first two months of 2026 also recorded a 0.49% increase, from 202 visits last year to 203 visits this year.

"This growth in container traffic reflects TPS's maintained and consistent operational performance, despite the ever-evolving dynamics of international logistics," said Erika Asih Palupi, Corporate Secretary of TPS.

He added that this achievement was supported by the reliability of loading and unloading services, the effectiveness of terminal operations, and the TPS's commitment to maintaining a smooth service process for all service users.

Meanwhile, Medy Prakoso (an importer from CV. Surya Bhakti Mandiri) expressed his appreciation for the quality of service provided by TPS. He stated that the various improvements made by TPS have had a positive impact on the smooth logistics operations of businesses, particularly importers.

"As TPS service users, we greatly appreciate the service provided by TPS, especially the delivery of imported containers. The Truck Round Time (TRT) is around 45 minutes, thus increasing efficiency in removing imported containers from the owner's warehouse. We hope that TPS's services can continue to be improved for all service users in the future," said Medy, who also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Surabaya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).

In terms of productivity, TPS recorded an average loading and unloading performance of 50 boxes/ship/hour during the first two months of 2026, exceeding the minimum standard set by the Ministry of Transportation through the Tanjung Perak Main KSOP, which is 48 boxes/ship/hour. Furthermore, TPS successfully maintained its dominant position in the international container market with a market share of 83% at Tanjung Perak Port.
