PONTIANAK INDONESIA (ISL News) - IPC Container Terminal (IPC TPK) recorded an increase in operational performance in the Pontianak Area throughout 2025 compared to the previous year, in line with the strengthening of trade and distribution activities in West Kalimantan Province. Based on IPC TPK operational data, the container flow of the Pontianak Container Terminal throughout 2025 (until December) was recorded at 283,045 TEUs, an increase compared to the realization in 2024 which reached 263,391 TEUs. Thus, the performance of the Pontianak Area grew by around 7.47% year-on-year.
The increase in container traffic was driven by increased shipping activity and cargo volume. Throughout December 2025, the number of ship calls increased by 43 vessels compared to the previous month, resulting in a monthly increase in container traffic of 438 boxes or 404 TEUs.
In terms of shipping, several major shipping companies recorded annual container volume growth, including Ganendra Catra Sakti, which increased by 2.82%; Indo Container Line, which saw significant growth of 40.55%; and Meratus Line, which recorded the highest surge, growing 93.40% year-on-year. Furthermore, domestic container traffic in the Pontianak area also showed strong growth of 19.75% compared to 2024, reflecting increased inter-island distribution activity in West Kalimantan.
"The Pontianak Area's continued growth throughout 2025 demonstrates the terminal's increasingly strategic role in supporting regional logistics and trade flows," said M. Loutfie Hidayat, Manager of IPC TPK Pontianak Area.
The operational performance of the Pontianak Container Terminal is in line with data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of West Kalimantan Province, which shows that foreign trade activity remains stable throughout 2025. BPS noted that in November 2025, West Kalimantan's export value reached US$177.13 million, while imports were recorded at US$51.02 million, resulting in a trade surplus.
Cumulatively, West Kalimantan's foreign trade surplus for the January–November 2025 period also recorded a surplus of approximately US$1.13 billion, reflecting the region's strong export performance. This situation also boosted the demand for container services at the Pontianak Container Terminal, one of the main gateways for export and import goods in West Kalimantan.
"Going forward, IPC Container Terminal will continue to focus on improving service reliability, operational efficiency, and strengthening the role of Pontianak Container Terminal in supporting the smooth flow of goods and regional economic growth in West Kalimantan," Loutfie concluded.
