JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - On January 22, the Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation continued to ensure the implementation of safe and orderly sea transportation by fulfilling ship seaworthiness requirements, especially in the aspect of ship safety management.
For this reason, the Directorate General of Sea Transportation held the International Safety Management (ISM) Code Auditor Revalidation to improve the competence of ISM Code Auditors in supervising Indonesian-flagged shipping companies and vessels in Jakarta, January 20-23, 2026.
In his direction, the Director of Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Samsuddin explained that the ISM Code Auditor Revalidation is part of the technical guidance and supervision of ship safety management carried out by the Directorate of Shipping and Maritime Affairs.
Human Resources (HR) in the field of ship safety management, continued Samsuddin, must have adequate competencies and constantly adapt to existing developments.
"For this reason, as many as 47 (forty-seven) participants from various work units within the Directorate General of Sea Transportation received training and competency testing related to the implementation of the ISM Code, regulations in the field of safety and pollution prevention from ships, as well as safety management audit procedures," he added.
In addition, Samsuddin said, various factual conditions currently pose a challenge for shipping safety regulators, especially Ship Safety Management Auditors, to always adhere to the applicable provisions in the field of ship safety management.
"Through the ISM Code Auditor Revalidation, we want to improve the competence of Ship Safety Inspectors in carrying out ship safety management audits in accordance with applicable laws and standards," Samsuddin concluded.
