BANJARMASIN (ISL News) - PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas has once again demonstrated its commitment to the environment. Through its social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) program, the company provided a grant of used tire waste from terminal equipment at TPK Banjarmasin to local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The 2025 TJSL assistance was distributed in the form of 1,415 used tires to Gatot Sampurno, a local MSME entrepreneur focused on recycling and the creative economy.

This used tire waste donation represents a concrete manifestation of the company's sustainability program, which manages operational waste that has the potential to pollute the environment while simultaneously creating new economic value for the surrounding community. The used tires are planned to be processed into various high-value products.

Widyaswendra, Senior Vice President of Corporate Secretariat of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, explained that this program aligns with the company's three main pillars of TJSL: social, economic, and environmental. "We are very enthusiastic about this program. On the one hand, we have succeeded in reducing the pile of used tire waste that requires special management. On the other hand, this waste is transformed into productive business capital for local MSMEs. This is a perfect example of a circular economy, where waste becomes a resource that empowers the community," said Widyaswendra.

Similarly, Sirin Purnomo, Terminal Head of the Banjarmasin Port Terminal (TPK Banjarmasin), added that the Banjarmasin Port Terminal (TPK Banjarmasin) is committed to being an integral part of economic progress and environmental preservation in Banjarmasin. By donating these 1,415 used tires, the company is not only supporting the cleanliness of the port area but also providing a significant boost to the creativity and independence of MSMEs.

"We hope that what we're doing can inspire and encourage MSMEs and other groups to participate in paying attention to the sustainability of our environment," he continued.

Meanwhile, Gatot Sampurno, a recipient of the used tire waste grant, said his organization struggled to obtain large, consistent quantities of raw materials. With this grant, Gatot now has sufficient supplies to develop innovative recycled products, such as chairs, tables, and other crafts made from used tires. For him, this isn't just a grant for raw materials, but also an opportunity to scale his business and create jobs in the surrounding area.

"We received quite a large amount of used tires as raw material this time. To process them, we need additional labor from the surrounding area. This can boost the local economy," he said.

PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas will continue to strive to strengthen synergies with MSMEs and other stakeholders to realize sustainable TJSL programs and provide broad positive impacts on the environment and socio-economic welfare of communities in its operational areas.
