JAKARTA (ISL News) - PT IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) presents an innovative step in supporting environmental sustainability through the launch of the "IPC TPK ReWear Project" program, an upcycling-based textile waste management initiative which is the first TJSL program within the Pelindo Group with a focus on reusing used employee uniforms.

Carrying the tagline "Small Steps, Big Impact," this program aims to cultivate a sustainable lifestyle within the company through simple steps that have a tangible impact on the environment. This initiative also supports the implementation of circular economy principles and contributes to Scope 3 emission reduction efforts by reusing textile materials that would otherwise have been discarded.

Through this program, IPC TPK successfully collected over 209 kilograms of used uniforms from various work units, which were then reprocessed into functional, useful products such as shopping bags, pouches, and laptop pouches. In addition to extending the life cycle of materials, this program also promotes more responsible and sustainable waste management.

The global fashion industry alone is known to contribute around 8–10 percent of global carbon emissions and generates over 92 million tons of textile waste annually. To address this challenge, IPC TPK presents the ReWear Project as a concrete solution that not only focuses on waste reduction but also on building a culture of sustainability within the company.

IPC TPK Corporate Secretary, Daniel Setiawan, said that this program is part of the implementation of the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitment while also supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially point 12 regarding Responsible Consumption and Production and point 13 regarding Climate Action.

"Through the IPC TPK ReWear Project, we aim to provide real solutions for textile waste management while simultaneously building collective awareness that sustainability can start with simple steps in the workplace. This program demonstrates IPC TPK's commitment to integrating ESG principles into the company's activities in a sustainable manner," said Daniel.

More than just a waste management program, the ReWear Project also reflects active employee engagement in building a more environmentally conscious work culture. Employee participation in collecting used uniforms symbolizes the company's internal collaboration in creating a tangible sustainability impact.

By reusing 209 kilograms of used uniforms, the IPC TPK ReWear Project has the potential to avoid carbon emissions of approximately 5.23 tons of CO₂e. This impact is equivalent to the annual carbon sequestration capacity of approximately 1 hectare or 10,000 square meters of tropical vegetation, and saves over 5.2 million liters of water.

IPC TPK hopes the ReWear Project can inspire similar initiatives in the national port and logistics sector. Through this initiative, IPC TPK affirms its commitment to continuously implementing business practices that focus not only on operational performance but also on positively impacting the environment and society.
