MAKASSAR INDONESIA (ISL News) -
PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Regional 4 is committed to always ensuring smooth operations in all ports under its management, especially during the peak of the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year (Nataru) holidays. This step aims to provide the best service to service users and maintain the smooth flow of passengers and goods during the end-of-year holiday period.

Pelindo as part of the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) which is the driving force of the national logistics sector has prepared various steps to ensure smooth operations in all ports, especially in welcoming the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Executive Director 4 Pelindo Regional 4, Abdul Azis said that his party had anticipated an increase in port activity during the Christmas and New Year holidays this year, which is predicted to increase by 12.5% compared to the same period last year, especially for passengers using sea transportation.

"Welcoming the Christmas and New Year holiday season this year, we have conducted various intensive coordination with stakeholders, including port authorities, ship operators, and security forces to ensure all operational aspects run smoothly. In addition, we have also strengthened security and safety protocols, and have prepared various facilities at ports in Region 4," he explained.

So far, said Abdul Azis, every year Pelindo always improves or repairs passenger terminal facilities such as passenger waiting rooms, passenger overnight waiting rooms, health rooms, garbarata, elevators, disabled toilets, children's playrooms, wheelchairs, control rooms (CCTV).

"We also prepare tents, chairs, and toilets that are always clean. In addition, we also improve security facilities and provide autogates. As well as improving the sterilization facilities of the passenger terminal waiting room."

Abdul Azis added, in addition to the addition of various facilities, digital services are also being strengthened where his party maximizes the use of digital technology in port services, such as e-pass for terminal access and goods tracking applications, to speed up administrative and operational processes. As well as providing a 24/7 operational monitoring system to ensure smooth activities in all ports under the management of Region 4 in the Eastern Indonesia Region (KTI).

Pelindo Regional 4 also synergizes with the police, TNI, and Basarnas to improve security in the port area. In addition, anticipatory measures related to extreme weather conditions that have recently occurred, especially in the Makassar area and its surroundings, have also been prepared to minimize potential operational disruptions.

"We are committed to providing safe, comfortable, and efficient services during this Christmas and New Year holiday period. We also appeal to the public who will travel through the port to comply with the applicable rules and utilize the service facilities that we have provided," said Executive Director 4 Pelindo Regional 4.

Meanwhile, Division Head of Operational Services of Pelindo Regional 4 Yusida M. Palesang said that the addition of a number of facilities and anticipation of a surge in passengers ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays this year was carried out by his party at all ports managed in Region 4, including the Nusantara Port of Parepare.

"Especially in Parepare Port, which is also always crowded during the Christmas and New Year holidays, the existing capacity available is 750 people. In addition, there is also an additional apron on the sea side and a Temporary Waiting Room (RTS) on the land side so that the total capacity at Nusantara Parepare Port is currently approximately 1,500 people," explained Yusida.

Pelindo also prepared a standby post in collaboration with various port stakeholder elements in order to strengthen the 2024/2025 Nataru Transportation Post. Pelindo collaborates with the Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP), Port Health Office (KKP), Port Security Implementation Unit (KPPP), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and related government agencies to monitor and control passenger flow, check travel requirements, and provide important information for passengers.

"Including the arrival and departure schedules of ships so that there is no accumulation of passengers either in the terminal waiting room or in the port area," he said.

Branch Manager (BM) of PT Pelindo Multi Terminal Parepare, I Nengah Suryana Jendra added, yesterday (Monday, December 23, 2024) there were two ships docked at Nusantara Port of Parepare, namely KM Binaiya and KM Siguntang, so prospective passengers from the two ships were quite crowded at the Ajatappareng Passenger Terminal of Parepare Port.

"Some occupy the available seats in front of the passenger terminal and some sit inside the passenger terminal. However, there are also passengers who occupy facilities located outside the passenger terminal, which also provide chairs and a place to sit on the floor for prospective passengers who really want to sit on the floor," said Nengah.

So far, according to him, the available facilities and capacity have been sufficient to accommodate prospective ship passengers who will travel by ship through Parepare Port.

"Hopefully this Christmas and New Year holiday will be without any significant obstacles, and ship passengers can enjoy their journey using sea transportation safely, comfortably, and orderly," concluded Nengah.
