BANTEN INDONESIA (ISL News) - The Directorate General of Sea Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, through the Class I Tanjung Priok Sea and Coast Guard Base (PLP), successfully carried out a rescue operation for 19 crew members of the MV FELYA ship that was stranded on Ujung Kulon Beach, in the Labuan Port Management Unit (UPP) area, Banten Province.
MV FELYA is a cargo ship owned by PT. Anugrah Makmur Sejahtera with a weight of 6,306 GT and IMO No.8506000 which is captained by Gustaf Sumolang at position 06.51.46 S / 105.30.23 E experienced damage to the propeller and engine during a voyage from Dumai to Tersus Semen Merah Putih, Bayah, Lebak, Banten. The damage caused the ship to leak and lose control during extreme weather, so that it ran aground and ran aground in shallow waters. Responding to the report, the SAR Team from the Tanjung Priok Class I PLP Base moved quickly to the scene to provide assistance.
"Bad and extreme weather conditions with high waves made the evacuation process even more difficult. However, thanks to the alertness of the PLP Base Tg.Priok SAR team and support from the PLP Base Tg.Priok patrol boat team, the Labuan Class III UPP Office and the local community, all crew members were successfully evacuated safely and taken to a safe place," said the Head of the Tanjung Priok Class I PLP Base, Triono.
Triono said when the team arrived at the location, the crew were found in a very weak condition due to running out of food supplies and only wearing wet clothes because of the rain. The team immediately took quick action by providing assistance in the form of food, drinks, and emergency clothing in the form of KPLP uniforms.
In addition to providing emergency assistance, the captain of the MV FELYA ship has made a Ship Accident Report (LKK) and coordinated with UPP Labuan for further handling steps. Due to the physical condition of the crew and the difficult road access, the team and the ship's crew decided to spend the night in Kampung Cegok, Rancapinang Village.
"The next day, our team continued the journey with the crew to the patrol boat that was on standby in Bojonegara, Banten. During this process, we continued to coordinate with related agencies to ensure the safety and smoothness of the evacuation," Triono added.
This rescue operation is a real proof of the commitment of the Tanjung Priok Class I PLP Base in carrying out guarding, securing, and rescue duties at sea. Triono also appreciated the dedication of the SAR team who moved quickly and swiftly in the field.
"Alhamdulillah, all crew members were rescued safely and received adequate initial treatment. This operation is a real manifestation of our dedication to protecting safety in Indonesian waters," concluded Triono.
Gustaf Sumolang, as the ship's captain and one of the crew members who was successfully evacuated, expressed his gratitude. "We are very grateful to the rescue team of PLP Tg.Priok Base who have worked hard to save all of us crew members and have provided clothes and food. We don't know what would have happened if it weren't for them," he said.
In addition to damage to the propeller and engine seals, initial inspection results indicate that the ship has run aground on the mainland and the team is currently conducting further evaluations to determine steps to save the ship.
As of this morning, Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 07.30 WIB, the ship's crew is in the process of being evacuated to the patrol ship KN.Trisula-P.111 in Bojonegara, Banten for further medical treatment.
On that occasion, the Director General of Sea Transportation, Capt. Antoni Arif Priyadi, ordered the Head of the PLP Tg.Priok Triono Base, to continue to supervise and secure the MV.Felya ship and respond quickly to any potential disruption to the smooth running of other sea transportation in the operational area under his responsibility.
Through this success, the Class I Tanjung Priok PLP Base confirms its commitment to continue to improve readiness and professionalism in carrying out its duties, especially in the field of sea and coastal guarding.
