JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia or Pelindo projects an increase in the number of sea transportation passengers by 2.2 million people will pass through the Passenger Terminal managed by the company during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period 2024/2025. This projection is up 12.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
"Last year, the passenger flow achievement for Nataru 2023/2024 was around 1.9 million passengers and this time it is predicted to jump 12.5 percent to around 2.2 million passengers," said Group Head of Corporate Secretariat, Ardhy Wahyu Basuki.
Pelindo has prepared 63 passenger terminals to welcome the 2024/2025 Christmas and New Year holidays spread from western to eastern Indonesia.
Of the 63 passenger terminals, it is projected that there will be five passenger terminals that will be the busiest with passengers during Christmas and New Year, namely Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Balai Karimun, Tanjung Perak, Makassar and Ambon.
In addition, to anticipate the surge in homecoming travelers, especially via sea routes, Pelindo has prepared several additional facilities such as tents, chairs and portable toilets during the Christmas and New Year period.
The addition of internal operational officers and security from the TNI/Polri as well as increased inspection of passenger luggage were also carried out during the Nataru period to improve passenger comfort as a follow-up to the direction of the Ministry of SOEs.
"We will also monitor and supervise the flow of embarkation and disembarkation passengers during the period of D-15 to D+15 or from December 10, 2024 to January 9, 2025 at all passenger terminals, especially during peak flow/return conditions for the smooth and comfortable flow of Nataru 2024/2025," concluded Ardhy.
