SURABAYA (ISL News) – Container flow at PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) from January to October 2024 increased by 9.77% compared to the same period in 2023.
In the tenth month of 2023, the number of container flows was recorded at 1,193,587 TEUs, while in the same period in 2024 the number increased to 1,310,235 TEUs. This increase was driven by the contribution of international container flows, which in 2023 were recorded at 1,138,336 TEUs and increased to 1,245,498 TEUs in 2024, an increase of 9.41%. Meanwhile, domestic container flows increased by 17.17%, from 55,251 TEUs in 2023 to 64,737 TEUs in 2024.
The comparison of container flows between exports and imports in the period from January to October 2024 was 49% (615,078 TEUs) for export containers and 51% (630,420 TEUs) for import containers. Compared to the same period in 2023, the percentage comparison of export and import container flows did not change. In 2023, exports contributed 49% with a container flow of 561,458 TEUs, while imports were recorded at 576,878 TEUs or 51% of the total container flow.
In addition, the number of ship visits until October 2024 also increased by 2.21%, with a total of 1,018 ship visits compared to the same period in 2023 which recorded 996 ship visits.
Based on a month-on-month comparison, container flow in October 2024 increased by 5.11% (143,193 TEUs) compared to September 2024 (136,230 TEUs). The increase in October 2024 was triggered by the contribution of international containers of 136,937 TEUs and domestic containers of 6,256 TEUs. In September 2024, the contribution of international containers was recorded at 130,348 TEUs and the contribution of domestic containers was 5,882 TEUs.
TPS President Director, Wahyu Widodo, expressed his gratitude for the trust of all parties, especially Customers to TPS. "Intense communication with Customers, innovation by utilizing information technology and additional supplies to TPS talents as the main guard overseeing TPS's prime services continue to be carried out in an effort to improve the quality of service according to Customer needs in the logistics and port industry," he said.
In terms of loading and unloading performance, TPS also recorded a significant increase, with an achievement of 54 boxes/ship/hour, exceeding the loading and unloading performance set by the Ministry of Transportation through the Tanjung Perak Main Port Authority Office in Surabaya (48 boxes/ship/hour). TPS still leads the market share with a percentage of 83% at Tanjung Perak Port.
