SURABAYA (ISL News) – The continued growth of international trade has also driven an increase in container traffic within PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, reaching 10.31 million TEUs from January to September 2026, representing a 5.80 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year. International container traffic grew 10.34 percent to 3.54 million TEUs, while domestic traffic reached 6.77 million TEUs.

As one of the main container terminals in Eastern Indonesia, Surabaya Container Terminal (TPS) continues to strengthen its service capacity through operational equipment modernization. Throughout 2026, TPS will add four Quay Container Cranes (QCCs) and 14 Electric Rubber Tyred Gantries (E-RTGs) to improve loading and unloading productivity, service reliability, and readiness for growing international and domestic container volumes.

The President Director of PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya, Ali Sodikin, said that strengthening operational facilities and equipment at the TPS is part of an effort to support the smooth flow of national logistics while strengthening Indonesia's trade competitiveness in the global market.

"The addition of modern equipment at the Terminal (TPS) is a strategic investment to increase terminal capacity and productivity to support the growth of international trade. We see the increase in Pelindo's container flow, which has reached 10.3 million TEUs, as a positive indicator for the national economy. TPS is committed to ensuring the readiness of infrastructure and services so that the flow of exports and imports can run more smoothly, efficiently, and competitively, thus strengthening Tanjung Perak Port's position as an international trade gateway in Eastern Indonesia."

Ali added that modernizing equipment and improving service quality are important steps in anticipating growing logistics needs while supporting the integration of national and international supply chains.

Sebastian Wibisono, Chairman of the East Java Regional Executive Board (DPW) of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI/ILFA), assessed that the growth in container traffic from January to September 2026 was a positive signal for trade and logistics activities, particularly in East Java.

"This growth in container traffic demonstrates the continued growth in the need for shipping goods, particularly for export and import activities. This is a positive indicator for trade and logistics activities in East Java," he said.

He also commended TPS's efforts to increase capacity and service quality by adding facilities and modernizing loading and unloading equipment, including the addition of four Quality Control (QCC) units and 14 E-RTG units. He noted that this capacity increase must be balanced with faster service, guaranteed ship schedules, smooth container flow, and competitive logistics costs.

"This way, logistics activities in East Java can run more smoothly and support the competitiveness of industry and trade, both in the domestic and international markets," said Wibi, as he is familiarly known.
