TUBAN (ISL News) - Learning about the maritime world directly from industry players was a valuable experience for students at SMAN 2 Tuban, East Java. Through the Pelindo Mengajar program, PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (PJM), a subsidiary of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), is here to share knowledge and inspiration about the port industry while introducing various educational and career opportunities that can be future choices for the younger generation.
The event, part of Pelindo's Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, was attended by 125 12th-grade students and 25 teachers. PJM's Director of Operations and Engineering, Warsilan, was present to share his experiences and introduce Pelindo's role in supporting national connectivity and logistics, including PJM's pilotage and towing services.
In addition to introducing the maritime industry, Warsilan emphasized the importance of skills development and job readiness. As a native of Palang District, Tuban Regency, he also hopes that more young coastal residents will be interested in pursuing a career in the maritime sector.
"This program is part of BUMN and Danantara's efforts to provide students with knowledge to better prepare them for the world of work. In addition to introducing the role of BUMN in supporting government programs, we also share knowledge beyond formal education, particularly regarding the soft skills needed by the next generation," Warsilan said.
The students' enthusiasm was evident in the interactive learning session, which included presentations, games, and discussions. Students had the opportunity to ask questions directly about various aspects of the maritime industry, from ship functions and shipping regulations to tugboat services.
One of the 12th-grade A students, Kalila Aura Azahra, expressed her delight at the learning experience. "Pelindo Mengajar provided very useful information through presentations and group games. I enjoyed learning with my friends. The Director was also very cool, answering all our questions," she said.
Gustaf Qabil, a 12th-grade student at SMAN 2 Tuban, expressed a similar sentiment, gaining a new understanding of Pelindo's role. "Through Pelindo Mengajar, we learned about state-owned enterprises (BUMN), their duties, and Pelindo's contribution to the port sector. Pelindo's presence also greatly supports student and school activities," he said.
Rina Irawati, Vice Principal for Public Relations at SMAN 2 Tuban, also expressed her appreciation for the event. "We, the entire SMA Negeri 2 Tuban family, express our deepest gratitude. It is an honor for us to receive inspiration and motivation from Pelindo Jasa Maritim," she said.
PJM not only shared knowledge, but also distributed TJSL assistance through the Pelindo Peduli Pendidikan program, which involved drilling clean water wells and installing piping at SMAN 2 Tuban. This assistance is expected to support clean water availability and a comfortable learning environment.
Entering its fourth year, Pelindo Mengajar is one of Pelindo's contributions in supporting human resource development, in line with the spirit of Danantara Indonesia and efforts to prepare the younger generation towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
Carrying the spirit of "From the Port, Carrying the Sails for the Golden Generation" , PJM hopes that this activity will not only increase students' knowledge, but also inspire them to dare to dream, develop their potential, and see broader future opportunities in the maritime sector.
