SURABAYA (ISL News) - PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) continues to strengthen its commitment to efficient and sustainable port operations by converting fossil-fueled operational vehicles to electric vehicles. To date, 25 operational vehicles within TPS have been successfully converted to electric vehicles as part of the company's transformation toward more environmentally friendly energy use.
This initiative not only provides environmental benefits but also improves the company's operational efficiency. Evaluations have shown that the use of electric vehicles can achieve operational cost efficiencies of up to 60 percent compared to conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
This operational vehicle conversion effort complements TPS's efforts to implement electric-powered technology and equipment in the terminal area. Currently, all loading and unloading equipment, consisting of 11 container cranes (CC) and 36 rubber-tired gantries (RTGs), operating at TPS are also electric, further strengthening the company's commitment to reducing its dependence on fossil fuels.
From an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) perspective, the use of electric vehicles and electrically powered operational equipment contributes to reducing carbon emissions from terminal operations. This step aligns with TPS's efforts to support the decarbonization agenda of the logistics and port sector and achieve sustainable development targets.
TPS President Director, Ali Sodikin, said that the transformation in electricity use is part of the company's strategy to create more efficient, modern and environmentally friendly terminal operations.
