JAKARTA TANJUNG PRIOK (ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), or Pelindo, has reaffirmed its commitment to continuously strengthening the role of ports as a hub for the archipelago and a driver of the national economy. By improving connectivity and efficiency of port services, Pelindo strives to make a tangible contribution to supporting an increasingly sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia.

This was conveyed by the President Director of Pelindo, Achmad Muchtasyar, while acting as Inspector of the Ceremony for the Commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia in the yard of the Pelindo Regional 2 Office, Jakarta, Monday (17/8/2026).

In his address, Achmad stated that the commemoration of Independence Day serves as a reminder to all Pelindo employees that the company's mission is not merely to carry out port operations but also to celebrate Independence Day through works that benefit the Indonesian people and economy.

"Eighty-one years ago, Indonesia's independence was fought for with courage, sacrifice, unity, and a strong belief in the nation's future. Today, our task is no longer to seize independence. Our task is to fulfill that independence with real work," said Achmad.

He believes that the theme of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence Day, "Indonesia Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous," strongly aligns with Pelindo's role in the national logistics and maritime ecosystem. As an archipelagic nation, Indonesia requires robust connectivity to ensure the effective and efficient movement of people and goods between regions.

"As the world's largest archipelagic nation, the sea is not a divider for Indonesia. It is a unifier. Ports are connectors. And connectivity is the lifeblood of the nation's economy," he said.

Achmad explained that port connectivity also plays a crucial role in promoting equitable development. The presence of ports from western to eastern Indonesia is part of efforts to ensure smooth distribution of goods, connect production and consumption centers, and support economic activity across the archipelago.

On the other hand, increasing port productivity and efficiency is crucial for creating economic value. Increased loading and unloading productivity, reduced port stays, and supply chain efficiency are expected to ultimately contribute to lower logistics costs, streamline goods distribution, and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian products.

In carrying out this agenda, Pelindo continues to transform and strengthen its performance in line with Danantara Indonesia's strategic direction. These efforts are aimed not only at creating economic value and increasing the productivity of state assets, but also at generating broader benefits for the economy and national development.

On that occasion, Achmad also expressed his prayers and sympathy for the people of East Nusa Tenggara affected by the earthquake. Several Pelindo-managed ports in the region were also affected and continue to receive assistance.

He asked all levels, especially in affected areas and areas still at risk of aftershocks, to increase vigilance, ensure the readiness of facilities and equipment, and prioritize safety in all operational activities.

"There is no operational target more important than human safety," Achmad stressed.

Concluding his speech, Achmad invited all Pelindo employees to use the momentum of independence as a reminder that every job carried out at the port has a greater meaning for Indonesia's connectivity and economy.

"From Indonesia's ports, we connect the archipelago. From Pelindo, we drive the nation's economy. And through our collective efforts, we realize a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia," Achmad concluded.
