MENPAWAH KALBAR (ISL News) The Kijing Terminal in Mempawah Regency has again achieved a significant milestone in the development of the logistics and international trade sectors. Pelindo officially launched its maiden voyage of container exports on Monday (June 29, 2026) using a vessel owned by PT Pulau Laut Line, bound for international markets via the Kijing Terminal in Mempawah, operated by PT Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok (PTP Nonpetikemas).

This initial service is a strategic step to strengthen logistics connectivity, increase logistics chain efficiency, and strengthen the competitiveness of leading commodities in the global market, thereby supporting the government's efforts to reduce national logistics costs, attract new investment, and encourage economic growth in West Kalimantan.

During the inaugural export, several exporters from the Kijing and Tayan Port areas shipped various superior commodities. From Kijing Port, PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia exported 12 20-foot containers of Alumina Hydroxide to Pasir Gudang, Malaysia. PT Unicoco Industries Indonesia also shipped two containers of Dedicated Coconuts to the same destination, while PT Ferrindo exported 10 containers of whole coconuts to Yangpu, China. Meanwhile, from the Tayan area, PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina shipped 150 20-foot containers to South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan.

The release of the first export was attended by the Governor of West Kalimantan Ria Norsan, the Regent of Mempawah Erlina, the Commercial Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) Farid Padang, the Executive Director 2 of Pelindo Regional 2 Budi Prasetio, the General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak West Kalimantan Yanto, the Head of the Pontianak Class I KSOP Office Capt. Dian Wahdiana, the Commercial Director of PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Kiki M. Hikmat, the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration of West Kalimantan Wahyu Hidayat, the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of West Kalimantan Budi Harjanto, representatives of PT Pulau Laut Line, representatives of PT IPC Terminal Petikemas, representatives of the Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center, and other stakeholders.

On that occasion, the Commercial Director of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), Farid Padang, said that the commencement of exports through the Kijing Terminal was a strategic step by Pelindo in strengthening the national logistics network while opening up opportunities for economic growth in West Kalimantan.

"Today, at Kijing-Mempawah Port, we are conducting our first export, shipping 180 containers of alumina, coconut products, and refined oil. We will provide larger vessels, new cranes, and extend the pier. We hope this step will bring blessings and stimulate economic growth in West Kalimantan," said Farid Padang.

In line with this, the Governor of West Kalimantan, H. Ria Norsan, appreciated PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) for starting container export services through the Kijing Mempawah Terminal.

Ria Norsan hopes that Kijing Terminal can develop into an export-import hub in West Kalimantan. She also emphasized the West Kalimantan Provincial Government's commitment to supporting port development by creating a conducive investment climate, expediting permitting processes, and increasing local employment.

"The West Kalimantan Provincial Government will continue to accelerate investment facilitation and encourage the construction of road access to the Kijing Terminal to facilitate smoother logistics activities and increase West Kalimantan's export competitiveness," explained Ria Norsan.

Pelindo Regional 2 Executive Director Budi Prasetio stated that the first export was the result of synergy between Pelindo, the government, regulators, shipping companies, exporters, and all stakeholders in optimizing Kijing Terminal. He stated that this first export demonstrates the growing trust of business players in Kijing Terminal.

Pelindo has also prepared various supporting facilities, including container loading and unloading equipment, so that the terminal is ready to provide more effective, efficient, and competitive services.

Furthermore, Yanto, General Manager of Pelindo Regional 2 Pontianak, West Kalimantan, stated that the direct export service through the Kijing Terminal offers numerous benefits for exporters. In addition to reducing logistics costs due to the port's proximity to industrial areas and warehouses, this service also speeds up delivery times to destination countries.

"With this service, exporters are no longer dependent on ports outside West Kalimantan. Land transportation costs are more efficient, while delivery times are also shorter. For the Pasir Gudang route, a direct call service is available, while commodities destined for China can be transshipped more quickly in Pasir Gudang," he said.

*_Kijing Terminal Operational Performance_*

Along with the commencement of container export services, the performance of Kijing Terminal continues to show significant growth since being operated by PTP Nonpetikemas. Throughput increased from 1.95 million tons in 2023 to 2.75 million tons in 2024, and reached 4 million tons in 2025. Entering the first quarter of 2026, Kijing Terminal again recorded a throughput of around 1.5 million tons, dominated by dry bulk commodities of 845 thousand tons and liquid bulk of 662 thousand tons.

In terms of target achievement, dry bulk handling performance reached 223%, liquid bulk 168%, and bag cargo reached 93% of the set target. These achievements reflect high loading and unloading activity and increased user confidence in Kijing Terminal.

As the operator of the Kijing Terminal, President Director of PTP Nonpetikemas, Indra Hidayat Sani, said that PTP Nonpetikemas is committed to providing reliable, safe, and productive operational services to support the smooth flow of logistics through the terminal.

"As the operator of the Kijing Terminal, PTP Nonpetikemas is committed to ensuring that all loading and unloading and port services run optimally, prioritizing safety, productivity, and service quality. We focus on human resource readiness, modern equipment, and the implementation of sound operational standards to provide the best service to our customers and support the smooth flow of national and international logistics," said Indra.

To support port operations, the Kijing Terminal is equipped with various modern facilities designed to serve a wide variety of commodities. The terminal features a 750-meter container dock with a capacity of up to 100,000 DWT, a 250-meter multipurpose dock, a 500-meter liquid bulk dock, and a 389-meter dry bulk dock. Additionally, the terminal features a container yard, an empty container yard, a container freight station (CFS), a reefer area, an integrated physical inspection facility, a trestle, a piperack, and various other supporting facilities.

The facility is supported by modern loading and unloading equipment such as Harbor Mobile Crane (HMC), Quay Container Crane (QCC), reach stacker, forklift, head truck, chassis, conveyor, hopper, grab, and bucket which enable container, liquid bulk, dry bulk, and general cargo services to be carried out efficiently and productively.

Supported by this infrastructure, Kijing Terminal continues to record growth across various service segments, including liquid bulk, dry bulk, and general cargo. This improved performance reinforces Kijing Terminal's role as a strategic logistics hub in West Kalimantan, supporting the smooth flow of trade, distribution of goods, and the government's downstreaming program.

The success of this first export launch further strengthens Kijing Terminal's role as a new logistics gateway in West Kalimantan. Through the synergy between Pelindo Group, the government, businesses, and all stakeholders, and supported by reliable operational services from PTP Nonpetikemas as the terminal operator, Kijing Terminal is expected to boost logistics efficiency, enhance export competitiveness, and make a significant contribution to regional and national economic growth.
