JAKARTA (ISL News) - Amid the growing challenges of plastic waste management, a global environmental issue, the continued accumulation of unutilized plastic waste remains a serious concern for various parties. In addition to its potential to pollute the environment, the accumulation of plastic waste can disrupt terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and reduce people's quality of life if not managed responsibly.
This situation has prompted the need for a more innovative approach to waste management, oriented not only toward waste reduction but also toward creating economic value and social benefits for the community. As part of its commitment to implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and sustainable development, PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk (IDX:IPCC) is collaborating with Rappo Indonesia to process plastic bag waste into high-value products.
This program prioritizes the concept of a circular economy by converting plastic waste into various useful and economically valuable souvenir products that can be marketed, thus providing real benefits to the environment while opening up opportunities for increasing income for the community, especially women who have become part of the empowerment program with a total of 16 women (Makassar and Depok).
Through this plastic waste management collaboration, 19.05 kilograms of plastic waste, equivalent to approximately 1,732 used plastic bags, was successfully processed into various functional and economically valuable products. The resulting products included 100 laptop bags, 40 card holders, journal books, and a reusable bag. These bags not only have high utility value but also symbolize the transformation of waste into products that support a sustainable lifestyle.
Through this approach, the IPCC not only contributes to reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in landfills but also encourages collective awareness about the importance of responsible waste management. This initiative is part of the Company's efforts to create a sustainable impact through the Creating Shared Value (CSV) principle, where the success of environmental programs goes hand in hand with strengthening the capacity and economic independence of the community. More than just waste management, this program reflects the application of circular economy principles that encourage the reuse of materials, extend the life cycle of products, and create shared value for the environment and society in a sustainable manner. This initiative demonstrates that plastic waste, which often ends up as environmental pollutants, can be transformed into resources that provide economic benefits while reducing the burden on the environment.
Rappo Indonesia was born from the passion to transform waste into valuable products while opening economic opportunities for the community. Starting from waste management and circular economy initiatives, today Rappo has collaborated with various companies, communities, and institutions to provide environmentally friendly merchandise and hampers that have an impact. We hope that the collaboration with PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk can be the first step of a broader collaboration in creating benefits for the environment, society, and future generations. "We would like to thank PT Indonesia Kendaraan Terminal Tbk for their trust in choosing Rappo products as part of the company's activities. For us, every merchandise is not just a product, but also a medium to convey values, care, and positive impacts to society and the environment. This collaboration is proof that the business world has an important role in encouraging more responsible and sustainable business practices," said Akmal Idrus, Founder and CEO of Rappo Indonesia.
The IPCC and Rappo's approach goes beyond waste reduction, but rather transforms waste into a value-added resource. When plastic waste can be processed into products with economic value, a cycle of benefits is created that strengthens environmental awareness, enhances community capacity, and supports a more inclusive and sustainable circular economy.
"This program reflects the IPCC's commitment to continuously creating long-term value through collaboration and innovation. We hope this initiative can be a catalyst for the growth of a collective movement in responsible environmental management, so that business success can align with the realization of a more self-sufficient society and a more sustainable environment," concluded Endah Dwi Liesly, IPCC Corporate Secretary.
