JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - Behind the loading and unloading activities, ports are the main nodes of the national supply chain as well as centers of economic connectivity that open up large spaces for various disciplines and future talents. Departing from this spirit, IPC Terminal Petikemas (IPC TPK) received an industrial visit from the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (UI) as part of the Port Trace Program last Friday (8/5/2026).

The Port Trace Program is an IPC TPK initiative to open access to industrial learning while bridging academic theory with operational reality in the field. Through this program, students are introduced directly to the modern port ecosystem that has now developed far beyond conventional operational activities.

During the visit, participants had the opportunity to see firsthand the modern logistics workflow by visiting the Integrated Planning & Control Room and Operations Terminal 3 at Tanjung Priok Port. Not only did they witness the container loading and unloading process, students also gained an understanding of how ports have become important nodes in the global supply chain, centers for business decision-making, and part of the digital transformation and sustainability in the national logistics industry.

During the visit, students delved deeper into the role of digitalization in modern port operations, from utilizing integrated systems to support service efficiency to mitigating risks against potential operational disruptions. Furthermore, they gained insight into customer relationship management, the organizational structure within the port environment, and the importance of cross-sector and cross-functional coordination in ensuring smooth loading and unloading processes as a vital part of the national supply chain.

IPC TPK Corporate Secretary, Daniel Setiawan, stated that the visit was part of the company's commitment to broadening the horizons of the younger generation regarding the ever-evolving port and logistics industry.

"Today's port industry is no longer an exclusive industry or one understood only by a select group. This industry is very open and requires a wide range of scientific perspectives, from economics, business, technology, data, sustainability, to communications. Therefore, we want to broaden the horizon that ports are a future industry that is relevant to the younger generation," Daniel said.

Unlike typical academic visits, the Port Trace Program is designed to provide a more contextual and strategic industry experience. Students are invited to understand how logistics efficiency affects national distribution costs, how international trade flows through ports, and how container terminals are transforming through digitalization and the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.

As a container terminal operator under the auspices of the Pelindo Group, IPC TPK believes that early exposure to the industry is crucial to narrowing the gap between education and industry needs. Open access to the world of ports is also expected to change the perspective of the younger generation, seeing this sector as dynamic, modern, and with great prospects for the future.

"Through the Port Trace Program, we want to provide a learning experience that is closer to the reality of the industry. Students not only see operational processes but also understand how ports work as supply chain links and drivers of economic activity. We hope that students can see firsthand that this sector continues to grow and requires a lot of talent with diverse scientific backgrounds," concluded Daniel Setiawan.
