SEMARANG INDONESIA (ISL News) - Semarang Container Terminal (TPK Semarang) is strengthening its operational decarbonization efforts by implementing an internationally standardized Greenhouse Gas (GHG) management system through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and ISO 14064 Workshop.
This initiative is part of the company's strategy to respond to global demands for sustainable business practices, while also increasing the port's competitiveness in a logistics ecosystem that increasingly prioritizes environmental aspects.
Through these activities, the Semarang TPK builds a systematic foundation for GHG emissions management, from identifying emission sources, establishing organizational boundaries and reporting, to quantification methods based on the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard. This approach ensures that the entire emissions inventory process is carried out in a measurable, consistent, and transparent manner.
The workshop also emphasized the application of five key principles in GHG reporting, namely relevance, completeness, consistency, transparency, and accuracy, which are key to producing credible emissions data that can be used as a basis for strategic company decision-making.
Terminal Head of TPK Semarang, I Nyoman Sutrisna, emphasized that strengthening the GHG management system is a concrete step in supporting a more efficient and low-emission operational transformation.
"The implementation of this standard not only strengthens regulatory compliance but also lays the foundation for promoting energy efficiency and sustainable emissions reduction. This is part of our commitment to becoming a competitive green port at both the national and global levels," he said.
ID Survey Lead Auditor Fauzia Lutfiyya Haz expressed her appreciation for the company's concrete steps in preserving the environment. She assessed that PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Semarang has demonstrated a strong commitment to implementing greenhouse gas (GHG) emission management and reporting in line with ISO 14064-1:2018 standards.
"Based on our verification results, the GHG emissions management system here is actually running well. However, it still needs to be strengthened in terms of documentation, data consistency, and the provision of supporting evidence. Process controls must also be improved to ensure the accuracy, credibility, and sustainability of the entire emissions management system within the company," said Fauzia.
In addition, understanding the conversion of emissions into CO₂ equivalent units (CO2e) by referring to the latest Global Warming Potential (GWP) value also strengthens the accuracy of emission calculations, so that it can serve as a basis for preparing future emission reduction targets.
This step also aligns with the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and efforts to improve the company's environmental performance under the PROPER program. With a structured and standardized GHG inventory system, TPK Semarang is optimistic about making a greater contribution to reducing emissions in the national logistics sector.
Going forward, TPK Semarang will continue to develop data-driven initiatives in environmental management, including optimizing energy use, operational efficiency of equipment, and strengthening a sustainable work culture across all operational lines.
