SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) – PT Terminal Teluk Lamong in collaboration with the BRIN Ecological Research Center held a Plant Diversity Enrichment Training in Green Open Space Areas as a decarbonization strategy to support the implementation of green ports in the Teluk Lamong Terminal area.

"This training is the first step in PT Terminal Teluk Lamong's major commitment to supporting the implementation of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, particularly in the aspect of environmental conservation and increasing understanding of the importance of plant diversity in maintaining ecosystem balance and supporting biodiversity conservation," explained Syaiful Anam, Corporate Secretary of PT TTL.

This plant diversity enrichment training was held on May 19-20, 2026, attended by 30 participants, consisting of the ESG team and gardeners from all TPKs, namely TPK Lamong, TPK Nilam and TPK Berlian.

This activity plays a crucial role for gardeners, as it enhances their capacity and competency in managing green spaces within the community. Focusing more than just routine plant care, the training aims to develop gardeners with a broader understanding of carbon stock (C-stock) calculations and the development of green open space models within the Teluk Lamong Terminal green space area.

On the first day of training, participants were provided with various basic and practical materials covering plant nurseries, acclimatization processes, plant morphology, and landscape planning.

"This activity aims to increase participants' understanding of sustainable plant cultivation and management techniques," said Sugeng Budiharta, a BRIN researcher.

On the second day, participants took an educational visit to the Purwodadi Botanical Gardens. During this activity, they learned various important aspects, from plant nursery techniques and plant care to plant monitoring methods.

One of the training participants, Melkizedek, expressed his enthusiasm for the activity. "Through this training, we gained a new understanding of the importance of biodiversity-based green open space management. We also learned how to use leaves as a material for making environmentally friendly compost. We hope all of this can be directly implemented in the Terminal environment," Melkizedek explained.

Through this training, PT Terminal Teluk Lamong affirmed its commitment to realizing a green port area that is oriented towards environmental conservation.

Going forward, the results of this training are expected to be implemented across all container terminal areas under the auspices of PT TTL, thereby supporting the creation of a healthy, productive port ecosystem and making a real contribution to national decarbonization efforts.
