Pelindo Ready to Accelerate Tanjung Carat, Fully Supports South Sumatra Port and Logistics Integration

PALEMBANG INDONESIA(ISL News) - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo affirmed its full readiness to support the accelerated development of Tanjung Carat Port as an international port and new export gateway for South Sumatra.

This commitment was conveyed directly by Pelindo Commercial Director, Farid Padang, when meeting with the Governor of South Sumatra, Herman Deru, in Palembang, Wednesday (20/5/2026).

During the meeting, Pelindo emphasized its readiness not only in terms of development concept, but also in operational aspects, business integration, and support for accelerated development in the field.

"We are ready to support accelerated development, including various needs both at the existing location and for future operational development," said Farid.

Pelindo is also preparing a modern port development concept that integrates industrial areas with the main port. This scheme is believed to strengthen the logistics ecosystem, accelerate the flow of goods, and increase South Sumatra's export competitiveness.

Furthermore, Pelindo ensures that the presence of Tanjung Carat Port will not disrupt existing ports such as Boom Baru Port and Sungai Lais Port. Instead, the existing ports will be optimized as feeders or key supporters within the integrated logistics system.

"Boom Baru remains a feeder supporting Tanjung Carat. This is a concept of integration, not competition," he explained.

Under this scheme, Tanjung Carat will function as the main export gateway, while the old port will become a collection and distribution hub for goods before they are sent to the main port.

In addition to supporting heavy-duty transport restrictions in urban areas, Pelindo also offers integrated solutions through synchronized traffic management between trucks, tankers, and public transportation. One proposal being pushed is a revision of the Mayor's Regulation, from a time-based restriction scheme to a vehicle quota-based regulation.

As part of this solution, Pelindo together with the Regional Government are also preparing buffer areas to eliminate the practice of parking on the roadside which has been one of the causes of congestion in port and urban areas.

On the operational side, Pelindo is also promoting the implementation of digital services through an auto-gate system and e-ticketing at port entrances. This system will be used to manage the quota of trucks and tankers entering the port area in a more measurable, efficient, and controlled manner.

Meanwhile, Herman Deru welcomed Pelindo's readiness, which he considered to be in line with regional needs in reducing logistics traffic congestion in Palembang City.

According to him, the acceleration of Tanjung Carat's development is not only about business development, but also concerns humanitarian aspects, particularly in reducing the burden of truck traffic in the city center.

"We want logistics activities to no longer be centralized in the city center. This acceleration is crucial for public safety and comfort," said Herman Deru.

He emphasized that the South Sumatra Provincial Government continues to support the operation of the old port, but will tighten heavy transport activities that pass through urban areas.

With the synergy between the local government and PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero), the accelerated development of Tanjung Carat Port is expected to be realized soon and become a strategic solution for the future economic growth of South Sumatra.
