SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Terminal Teluk Lamong officially launched the "Titik Hijau" Green House and received rare plants from the Purwodadi Botanical Gardens, marking the kick-off of a collaboration between PT Terminal Teluk Lamong and the BRIN Ecological Research Center. This activity also coincides with the commemoration of International Day for Biodiversity, which is celebrated every May 22.
The Green House, named "Titik Hijau" by PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, is part of the company's commitment to supporting sustainable environmental management and increasing green open space in the port's operational area. Various types of hydroponic vegetables, fruits, shade plants, pollution-absorbing plants, and conservation plants have been grown in the area.
On this occasion, BRIN Purwodadi Botanical Gardens also handed over the rare Javanese Nutmeg plant (Myristica teysmannii) as one of the rare tree species endemic to Java Island which has endangered status so that it can provide added value in the form of biodiversity conservation in the PT Terminal Teluk Lamong area.
The Director of Operations of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, Muhammad Syukur, who inaugurated this activity, said that this initiative is part of the company's steps to provide port operations that are not only modern and efficient, but also environmentally friendly.
"The inauguration of the Green Point Green House demonstrates PT Terminal Teluk Lamong's commitment to supporting environmental conservation and enhancing biodiversity. Through collaboration with BRIN, we hope the company's green open space can become a more productive, educational, and sustainable ecosystem," said Syukur.
This ecologically based plant diversity enrichment in green open spaces was initiated by the ESG (Environmental Social Governance) team of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong and the workforce responsible for managing plants in the Company's area.
Meanwhile, the Representative of the BRIN Purwodadi Botanical Garden Research Team, Sugeng Budiharta, expressed his appreciation for the collaborative steps taken by PT Terminal Teluk Lamong in supporting biodiversity conservation in the Port area.
"With the growing number of stakeholders concerned about biodiversity conservation, we hope to establish small botanical gardens in industrial areas and ports. The greater the number and variety of plants planted, the greater the opportunity to benefit the environment," said Sugeng.
Through this collaboration, PT Terminal Teluk Lamong and BRIN will develop various plant enrichment programs, environmental education, carbon stock calculations, and technical assistance in managing green open spaces oriented towards environmental conservation and sustainability.
This activity affirms PT Terminal Teluk Lamong's commitment to implementing ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance), particularly in terrestrial ecosystem preservation and climate change action. This collaboration with BRIN also demonstrates the concrete synergy between ports and research institutions in supporting biodiversity conservation.
