SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) - PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) recorded a positive trend in its monthly operational performance. In April 2026, container throughput at this subsidiary of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas Subholding continued to grow 4.31% month -on-month .

Container volume increased from 114,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in March 2026 to 119,000 TEUs in April. This positive performance was driven by the dominance of international containers, which contributed 116,000 TEUs, while domestic lines contributed 3,000 TEUs.

In the international trade sector, TPS's export-import performance throughout April also showed healthy growth. Export flows rose 3.64% to 57,000 TEUs, while import volumes increased 9.25% to 59,000 TEUs compared to the previous month.

Resilience Amidst Global Logistics Dynamics

TPS Corporate Secretary, Erika Asih Palupi, emphasized that the growth in April not only reflects TPS' operational resilience in responding to the trust of Customers and Stakeholders, amidst various challenges including global economic conditions including the dynamics of operational adjustments as a strategy that must be implemented throughout the transformation program through equipment rejuvenation to then rebound with more optimal performance.

" The month-on-month growth in container traffic in April 2026 demonstrates that the TPS's operational performance remains resilient . This increase in export and import activity reflects improvements in trade activities and harmonious communication with all parties," Erika said in her statement.

Despite posting positive monthly results, market adjustment challenges still overshadowed year- on-year performance . Throughout the January–April 2026 period, total container flow (exports and imports) decreased by 5.5% to 472,000 TEUs, from 498,000 TEUs in the same period last year.

Erika explained that this annual correction was caused by an unbalanced factor , or imbalance, between cargo volume and ship calls . This occurred because shipping service schedules remained unchanged, but market cargo volumes had not grown as rapidly as available ship carrying capacity.

However, the enthusiasm of international ship visits to TPS continued to increase by 0.59%, namely from 335 visits at the beginning of last year to 337 visits in the first four months of this year.

Currently, TPS is implementing a gradual operational transformation process along with the arrival and operation of new equipment, including 14 units of Electric Rubber Tyred Gantry (E-RTG) and 4 units of Electric Container Crane (E-CC). This transformation is accompanied by various operational adjustments to increase productivity and service efficiency. This step up step is TPS's commitment to continue providing excellent and reliable services to all Service Users amidst the dynamics of the logistics industry. TPS also expresses its appreciation and gratitude for the support from all customers and stakeholders who remain loyal to maintaining and supporting the smooth implementation of this transformation program.

Shipping Association Appreciates Service, Controls 83% Market Share

The consistent quality of TPS services has received a thumbs up from industry players, one of which is the Surabaya Branch Leadership Council (DPC) of the Indonesian National Shipowners' Association (INSA).

Secretary of the DPC INSA Surabaya, Dwi Agus, appreciated the operational efficiency provided by the TPS in the Tanjung Perak Port area.

"The various improvements made by TPS have had a positive impact on efficiency and service certainty for shipping companies. We hope TPS can continue to strengthen collaboration to support a smooth supply chain," said Dwi Agus.

TPS's commitment to boosting productivity is demonstrated by concrete figures. Throughout the first two months of 2026, the average loading and unloading performance of TPS reached 50 boxes/ship/hour. This figure exceeds the minimum standard set by the Ministry of Transportation through the Tanjung Perak Main Operational Unit (KSOP), which is 48 boxes/ship/hour.

With this performance, TPS can still maintain its dominance by controlling 83% of the international container market share at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya.
