SURABAYA INDONESIA (ISL News) - Strategic planning plays a crucial role in managing a sustainable business. Strategic planning considerations include how a company can improve its service level and safety while simultaneously fulfilling its commercial functions.
One strategy for gathering data and information for these improvements is the Voice of Customers initiative . Understanding customers' experiences , hearing about the challenges they face, and gaining positive feedback on joint improvement efforts has been implemented through various forums. One such forum is holding joint discussion forums.
This was carried out by PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) and PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL) together with Subholding Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) through the implementation of a Coffee Morning forum with the East Java Regional Management Board of the Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (DPW ALFI/ILFA) at the Arcadia Hotel, Surabaya, Wednesday (20/5).
The discussion forum aims to strengthen communication, collaboration, and synergy across sectors to create a more integrated, efficient, and adaptive port operational system to the ever-evolving dynamics of the logistics industry.
TPS Corporate Secretary, Erika A. Palupi, emphasized that improving service quality at container terminals, as part of the port ecosystem, cannot be achieved in isolation by each party. Involving the logistics ecosystem as a whole will strengthen and accelerate the achievement of shared goals.
"Ports are ecosystems that involve many parties. Therefore, improving services requires strong collaboration and communication between operators, service users, logistics players, shipping companies, and other relevant stakeholders ," said Erika.
Responsive to Density and Stacking Period
During the constructive discussion forum, the issue of container terminal congestion and container stacking times emerged as a key topic, as the volume of goods continues to increase. Erika explained that this challenge hinges not only on the capacity of the physical infrastructure but also on the efficiency of the behind-the-scenes systems. Discipline from all parties in their commitment to complying with regulations also plays a significant role in addressing the issue of congestion at container terminals.
"The challenge of congestion is also influenced by the effectiveness of service systems, speed of administration, data synchronization, and disciplined operational processes in the field. This situation demands more responsive operational patterns and strengthened coordination across entities and agencies," he added .
Beyond operational aspects, this forum also emphasized the importance of transforming the work culture within the port ecosystem to make it more adaptive, responsive to change, and oriented toward service excellence . This step is considered crucial for boosting the global competitiveness of the national logistics ecosystem.
Encourage Digitalization and Service Standardization
Positive aspirations came from the business owners in attendance. Representatives of the East Java ALFI Regional Executive Board (DPW) took advantage of the opportunity to provide strategic input regarding real-world conditions.
Several important points that were agreed to be followed up together include:
- Service standardization: Equalizing service quality standards across all loading and unloading lines.
- Optimizing Stacking Areas: Managing stacking area utilization to be more effective in order to prevent bottlenecks .
- Digital System Consistency: Ensuring system integration and reliability with the aim of reducing bureaucracy and dwelling time .
The interactive event concluded with a shared commitment to continue conducting periodic evaluations. Through solid synergy, Pelindo and ALFI East Java are optimistic about achieving a competitive, efficient, and sustainable port operational transformation.
As part of its commitment to improving services, the terminal management stated that it will continue to evaluate and improve operational processes, strengthen service coordination, optimize the use of port facilities, and increase the use of digital systems to support faster, more transparent, and more efficient services.
Meanwhile, the East Java ALFI/ILFA Regional Leadership Council (DPW) and service users also expressed their commitment to supporting smooth port operations by increasing compliance with service procedures, optimizing logistics activity planning, accelerating administrative processes, and strengthening communication and coordination with terminal operators and related agencies.
