SURABAYA (ISL News, April 23, 2026) — PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL) held a meeting with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Purwodadi Botanical Gardens at the PT Terminal Teluk Lamong Main Office (April 22) to strengthen nature conservation in the Terminal Teluk Lamong area. This collaboration is part of the company's commitment to integrating environmental sustainability aspects into its business operations.

As a form of commitment to the green port concept, PT TTL has initiated various programs by implementing eco-engineering technology in port infrastructure, monitoring environmental quality, controlling environmental pollution, restoring coastal ecosystems by preserving mangroves and planting anti-pollutant trees to support the absorption of carbon gas emissions.

Syaiful Anam, Corporate Secretary of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, stated that this initiative is an important step in maintaining a balance between port operations and environmental preservation at Terminal Teluk Lamong. "We believe that the port of the future will not only be oriented towards operational performance, but also align with ecosystem sustainability and increasing biodiversity in the Port Area. The synergy with the Purwodadi Botanical Gardens is expected to provide applicable scientific solutions with long-term impacts," explained Syaiful Anam.

This synergy program will focus on the protection and management of natural ecosystems in coastal areas and green open spaces in the Teluk Lamong Terminal area with a research-based approach. In addition, this synergy also includes the development of a vegetation-based carbon calculation methodology, mapping priority conservation areas, environmental management education, and the preparation of environmental conservation strategies as part of the company's commitment to the principles of sustainability.

Syaiful Anam further added that this initiative represents a concrete step the company takes to support the national target of reducing carbon emissions. "We are currently implementing a Terminal Booking System (TBS) program to manage truck arrivals at the terminal, preventing congestion and excessive carbon pollution in the work area," he added.

"Teluk Lamong Terminal consistently implements ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) programs to address the challenges of a modern port. One way is by preserving a living space that supports the diversity of flora and fauna while making a real contribution to global efforts to address climate change," said Syaiful Anam.

The research team from Purwodadi Botanical Gardens had the opportunity to directly observe the plant nursery location in the Teluk Lamong Terminal Greenhouse area, a green open area along the Port consisting of a variety of ornamental plants, fruits and anti-pollutant trees.

Titut Yulistyarini, a representative of the Purwodadi Botanical Gardens Research Team, emphasized the importance of managing the port's ecosystem through data support and technological innovation. "We will conduct a comprehensive study of plant species suited to the environmental conditions in the Teluk Lamong Terminal area, as well as increasing biodiversity, including carbon sequestration potential and its contribution to biodiversity," she concluded.
