JAKARTA INDONESIA (ISL News) - New Priok Container Terminal One (NPCT1) has achieved a significant milestone in its operational journey by reaching a total handling of 10 million TEUs since it began operations in 2016.
This achievement was achieved in August 2025 and marks the consistent performance of the container terminal under the auspices of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) through collaboration with global partner SEA Terminal Management & Service (STMS).
Throughout 2025 through November, NPCT1 successfully handled 1.39 million TEUs, putting it on a solid track to close the year with positive performance. NPCT1 Director, Kiki Mohammad Hikmat, said this achievement reflects the trust of service users and the strong collaboration between terminal operators, shipping partners, and other stakeholders.
"The achievement of more than 10 million TEUs since 2016 is proof of our consistency in maintaining operational performance, safety, and service quality," said Kiki in Jakarta, Tuesday (30/12/2025).
Shipping Partners
NPCT1 currently operates 16 weekly shipping services and partners with global shipping companies such as Maersk, Evergreen, MSC, HMM, SITC, Hapag-Lloyd, TS Lines, Namsung, Wan Hai Lines, and Yang Ming. The terminal serves as a key hub for national logistics flows, serving sectors ranging from manufacturing and automotive to consumer goods and agriculture.
Throughout 2025, NPCT1's operational performance will be strengthened through a number of strategic improvements. These include the procurement of one quay crane, five rubber-tired gantries (RTGs), and seven new prime movers to facilitate smooth loading and unloading operations.
The implementation of the Terminal Booking System (TBS) since August 2025 has increased truck flow efficiency, reduced congestion, and streamlined container receiving and shipping processes. Yard optimization through cluster management, bay day prioritization, and continuous monitoring have also maintained a stable yard occupancy rate of around 60 percent, while driving volume growth of up to 17 percent compared to the previous year.
Human Resources and Electrification
Meanwhile, NPCT1 continues to strengthen its sustainability foundation through human resource development, implementation of high safety standards, and accelerated digital transformation. An electronic billing system through the ECON platform, updates to the Global Terminal Operating System (GTOS), integration with trucking platforms, and enhanced cybersecurity are all part of the strategy to increase service efficiency and transparency.
A commitment to environmental sustainability is also a key focus. NPCT1 aims to reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2030, including through the use of solar energy, which currently supplies approximately 50 percent of the main building's electricity needs.
The entire RTG fleet has switched to electric and hybrid systems, while prime movers use B40 fuel. A cold ironing facility has also been put into operation, allowing vessels to shut off their engines while berthing, thereby reducing exhaust emissions.
"Electrification is a key pillar of our sustainability strategy," said Kiki. He added that all these efforts are reinforced by the implementation of the ISO 14001:2015 standard, which guarantees integrated and sustainable environmental management.
With a terminal area of 32 hectares, supported by nine quay cranes, 29 RTGs, 51 prime movers, three piers totaling 850 meters, a daily capacity of up to 6,000 TEUs, and 990 reefer plugs, NPCT1 confirms its position as one of the most modern and reliable container terminals in Indonesia. Going forward, NPCT1 is committed to continuously strengthening innovation, efficiency, and partnerships to support national and regional logistics competitiveness.
