SURABAYA (ISL News) - PT Terminal Teluk Lamong (TTL) has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to boost national supply chain efficiency by serving its first multimodal export shipment. The inaugural shipment took place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, on the Semarang Tawang Station-Teluk Lamong Terminal route, as part of the implementation of a more efficient and environmentally friendly multimodal export transportation scheme.
This activity is the result of a collaboration between PT Bintang Laut Platinum, the multimodal transport operator, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, and OOCL Shipping. The transported commodities are industrial products from Central Java destined for export to various countries in Asia.
Through a multimodal scheme, export cargo from Semarang Tawang Station is transported by train to Surabaya Benteng Station, then continued by truck to Teluk Lamong Terminal for export loading. All export customs documents (PEB, NPE, BL, and Customs Manifest) have been completed at the Tanjung Emas Customs and Excise Service and Supervision Office (KPPBC), under the supervision of KPPBC Tanjung Perak at the Surabaya Teluk Lamong Port.
This model has proven to be more efficient in terms of time, cost, and document completeness compared to the conventional mechanism, which uses trucks from Semarang to Surabaya entirely. Furthermore, export duties and foreign exchange are recorded and returned to the region of origin (Semarang), maintaining local economic contributions.
Iko Sukma Handriadianto, Operations Director of PT Bintang Laut Platinum and Deputy Chairperson for Logistics and Multimodal Development of the East Java ALFI Regional Leadership Council, expressed his appreciation to all parties involved. "Thank you to the Tanjung Perak Port Office (KPPBC) and the Teluk Lamong Terminal Team for their support. This inaugural activity is extraordinary, proving that the Port of Surabaya functions as an international hub port for integrated single-document transportation between regions and countries," Iko said.
David Pandapotan Sirait, President Director of PT Terminal Teluk Lamong, emphasized that the multimodal scheme offers significant benefits for exporters, especially those located far from ports. "Multimodal is an integrated logistics solution that can reduce costs, accelerate travel times, and ensure optimal compliance with customs regulations," David explained.
"Another positive impact is a reduction in road traffic and reduced emissions from public transportation. By shifting some of the cargo to rail, logistics efficiency increases while making a significant contribution to environmental sustainability," David concluded.
