BELAWAN (ISL News) -  PT Prima Multi Terminal (PMT), a subsidiary of Pelindo Group operating in the field of container and multipurpose terminal services, continues to strengthen the capacity of human resources (HR) to face the challenges of the increasingly digitalized logistics industry.

One of the concrete steps taken by the company is to hold Container Terminal Operation (CTO) Training for operational and non-operational employees at Kuala Tanjung Terminal, Thursday (23/10/2025).

This activity is the result of collaboration between PMT and PT Pendidikan Maritim dan Logistik Indonesia (PMLI), a training and competency development institution under the Pelindo Group that focuses on the maritime and logistics sector.

This CTO training is designed not only to provide technical understanding, but also to build a strategic and adaptive mindset to technological changes in the modern port environment.

"The core business of a container terminal is service. Through CTO training, we want to ensure that all employees understand the essence of service and have the skills to operate the terminal to global standards," said Wahyudi, Acting Director of Operations and Engineering at PMT.

According to Wahyudi, developing human resource competencies is key for PMT to achieve sustainable operational excellence. He emphasized that improving employee capabilities is not solely about technical aspects, but also encompasses strengthening work culture and corporate values.

"We want every PMT employee to internalize the AKHLAK values — Trustworthy, Competent, Harmonious, Loyal, Adaptive, and Collaborative — which are the foundation of the work ethic within the Pelindo Group," he added.

This full-day CTO training provides comprehensive training using both theory and case studies. The training materials cover an introduction to the shipping and containerization industry ecosystem, terminal design and capacity, organizational structure and business processes, and terminal operating systems (TOS).

Participants were also encouraged to understand the concepts of cost and revenue management, as well as how digitalization can improve operational efficiency and accuracy. This activity received positive feedback from participants. They noted that this type of training helped broaden their horizons and deepen their understanding of the critical role of human resources in supporting terminal performance.

Previously, CTO training was also conducted for employees at the Belawan Terminal, which is also managed by PMT. This means that the company's two main terminals now have a human resource base that is better prepared for the modernization of terminal operating systems being promoted by the Pelindo Group.

Syamsuddin, PMT's Director of Finance, Human Resources, and Risk Management, explained that CTO training is a crucial part of the company's long-term strategy to navigate the era of logistics 4.0. "The world of logistics and ports is now moving toward automation and data-driven efficiency. Therefore, PMT's largest investment must be directed toward improving human capacity, the primary driver of the entire system," he said.

Syamsuddin added that the ultimate goal of this activity is to develop human resources capable of adapting to digital transformation and possessing a holistic understanding of all aspects of container terminal operations.

"Increasing human resource capacity through CTO training is the first step for PMT to become a world-class container terminal," he stressed.

He also hopes that this training won't remain a ceremonial activity, but will instead foster a culture of continuous learning throughout the PMT workplace. This way, the company will not only produce skilled employees but also build a dynamic, future-oriented learning ecosystem.

This CTO training marks PMT's commitment to positioning human resources as a strategic company asset. Amidst the rapid flow of technological change and globalization, PMT believes that investing in people is the most fundamental step in maintaining competitiveness and ensuring business sustainability. For PMT, a modern terminal is not just about machines, systems, or digital infrastructure, but also about the readiness of the people who operate it, possessing strong knowledge, skills, and values.
