MAKASSAR INDONESIA (ISL News) - February 9, 2025 – The Manpower and Transmigration Service of South Sulawesi Province recorded that as many as 80% of accidents or health problems were caused by human error.
This was stated by the Head of the South Sulawesi Manpower and Transmigration Service, Jayadi Nas, when giving a speech at the "Socialization of Occupational Safety and Health (K3)" to the Loading and Unloading Workers (TKBM) and Baggage Workers (TK) at Makassar Port.
The K3 awareness activity held in the 7th Floor Meeting Room of the Pelindo Regional 4 Office in Makassar last week, presented speakers, namely the Functional Expert Middle Manpower Supervisor of the South Sulawesi Manpower and Transmigration Service, Rizal Amin, and the Functional Expert Middle Manpower Supervisor of the South Sulawesi Manpower and Transmigration Service, Giawan Lussa.
Jayadi Nas said that occupational safety and health issues are our main capital as workers. "And the existing data states that 80% of accidents that occur or health problems are more due to human error or human error itself. Is it because of fatigue, or because they take a job too lightly so that the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) is not implemented," he said.
Therefore, he continued, in addition to having to obey the SOP, on the other hand, do not forget to pray to God Almighty. "So, occupational safety and health are basic rights, our main capital as workers."
"Therefore, workers in the field of loading and unloading, in addition to maintaining the safety of the goods being unloaded and maintaining the safety of how the placement process is, must also protect yourself from all possible occurrences. Must comply with the SOP requirements and do not be careless," he advised.
He appreciated Pelindo Management for initiating and carrying out activities related to K3 Month or Occupational Safety and Health Month. "This is a routine activity carried out every year, but the company can conduct socialization at any time. How to provide knowledge, build awareness, and mature every Pelindo person to always maintain occupational safety and health," said Jayadi Nas.
General Manager of Pelindo Regional 4 Makassar, Iwan Sjarifuddin said that all Pelindo workers and personnel must be aware and really pay attention to K3 or Occupational Safety and Health, especially in the company environment.
According to him, Makassar Port is open to international ships. "So, the standards set must also be international standards. And it is indeed very strict. Maybe according to others we are too exaggerated, but that is the standard that must be applied. Especially if we are on the edge of the pier, it is mandatory to use complete PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), must use a helmet, vest or life jacket properly."
